How to Make Planks and Sticks in RLCraft Without a Crafting Table

Minecraft·March 14, 2025·7 min read

RLCraft does not let players turn logs into planks by casually dropping them into a crafting grid. First, a small survival chain is required: flint, a knife, plant string, an axe, and then wood processing.

Getting Planks and Sticks in RLCraft

Step 1: Collect Flint

Start by breaking gravel. In RLCraft, flint tools usually come before stone tools, and gravel has a 15% chance to drop flint each time it breaks. Gravel is commonly found near water, and blocks can be placed and broken repeatedly until flint drops.

Once flint is obtained, find exposed stone and right-click the top of it while holding the flint. This breaks the flint into flint shards.

Step 2: Craft a Flint Knife

A flint axe is not available immediately, because RLCraft enjoys adding chores to chores. First, craft a flint knife using one stick and one flint shard.

Sticks can be gathered in small amounts by breaking leaves. Open the inventory with “E,” place the flint shard in the top-left slot of the crafting grid, then place the stick directly underneath it. The result is a flint knife.

Step 3: Craft a Flint Axe

The flint axe requires one stick, one plant string, and one flint shard. Plant string comes from plant fiber, which is gathered by cutting tall grass with the flint knife. Once three plant fibers are collected, craft them into plant string in the inventory grid.

With plant string ready, open the inventory. Place the plant string in the top-left slot, a stick directly below it, and a flint shard to the right of the plant string. Craft the flint axe, then use it to chop down trees. Cutting the lowest log is recommended because the rest of the tree will fall automatically in RLCraft.

Step 4: Turn Logs Into Planks and Sticks

After collecting logs, place a log block on the ground. Hold the axe and right-click the log to cut it into planks. This does not happen through a crafting table.

To make sticks, place plank blocks on the ground and right-click them with the axe. The process is a little slower than vanilla Minecraft, but once the tools are ready, it becomes repeatable.

The Short Version

Break gravel for flint, make flint shards, craft a flint knife, cut grass for plant fiber, craft plant string, make a flint axe, chop logs, then right-click placed logs and planks with the axe. That is how RLCraft turns a basic stick into an entire project.
