How to Locate Trial Chambers in Minecraft 1.21

Minecraft·June 15, 2024·5 min read

Trial chambers are underground dungeons in Minecraft 1.21, filled with combat rooms, trial spawners, vaults, and loot. They are valuable, but the surface gives no obvious warning.

Ways to Find Trial Chambers in Minecraft 1.21

1. Mining and Caving

Trial chambers generate in the Overworld between layers -20 and -40. Since nothing marks them above ground, many players find them by strip mining or exploring caves at the right depth.

This method is slower than using a map, but it can also provide ores and other underground resources.

2. Cartographer Villager Maps

The most reliable survival-friendly method is buying a trial explorer map from a cartographer villager. The map points to a nearby trial chamber for emeralds.

Once you reach the marked area, dig down carefully with a staircase. Dropping straight into a combat structure is bold, not wise.

3. Console Commands

Players who do not mind using console commands can locate the nearest trial chamber directly. The command provides coordinates and may allow teleporting.

Use this command:

  • /locate structure Minecraft:trial_chambers

On servers, only players with sufficient permissions can run it.

What to Do After Finding One

Do not treat a trial chamber like an empty cave. Trial spawners fill the halls and can overwhelm unprepared players.

Before exploring, bring at least iron-level combat gear and plenty of food. Cleared trial spawners can drop trial keys, which unlock vaults with loot. Trial chambers also include a hidden hard mode, so preparation stays important.
