How to Host a Minecraft Snapshot 22w12a Server

Minecraft·March 29, 2022·7 min read

Minecraft Snapshot 22w12a brought the Warden to Java Edition, which naturally raises the next question: can friends join the chaos too? Yes, but every player needs the snapshot installed, and the server must run the matching snapshot jar.

What Snapshot 22w12a Added

Snapshot 22w12a introduced several major 1.19 features. The Warden arrived as the main threat of the deep dark, supported by Sculk Shriekers that can trigger the darkness effect and summon danger for noisy players.

Ancient cities also became more rewarding with Swift Sneak, a leggings-only enchantment found in the deep dark. On the surface, boats with chests were added, letting players carry loot across water without relying on a separate storage setup. It is more practical than putting an alpaca in a boat, and considerably less judgmental.

Install Snapshot 22w12a on the Client

Players must install Snapshot 22w12a client-side before joining a server running it. The official Minecraft Snapshot 22w12a post explains that snapshots can be enabled from the Installations tab in the Minecraft Launcher.

After enabling snapshots, create a new installation, select the snapshot, and launch it. Back up any existing worlds before opening them in a snapshot, since test versions can corrupt saves.

Server Options for Snapshot 22w12a

Snapshot servers can be made through home hosting or paid hosting. Home hosting is free, but it usually requires more setup and troubleshooting. Paid hosting is often easier, especially for snapshots that may be unstable. A server with at least 4GB of RAM is recommended.

HolyHosting and other Minecraft hosts can run snapshot servers, depending on their jar menus and available version options. The important part is matching the server and player versions exactly.

Home Hosting Setup

To host from home, download the official server jar from the Minecraft Snapshot 22w12a article. Move the jar into a new folder that will hold the server files.

Run the jar once and follow the prompts. New files should appear, including the Minecraft EULA file. Open it, change the EULA value to true, adjust any server settings you want, then run the jar again. If everything is configured correctly, the server should start.

Home hosting may require port forwarding, firewall changes, and a reasonably strong PC. Those issues vary by network and machine, so they need to be handled as they appear.

Many Minecraft hosts offer snapshots as a pre-install option or through a jar menu after purchase. Server details such as the IP address and control panel login are usually sent by email, although each host handles setup differently.

At HolyHosting, Java Edition snapshots are added to the jar menu for Budget and Premium servers when available. If the snapshot is not shown during purchase, it can be selected afterward from the jar selection menu in the Multicraft panel at no extra cost. Select the snapshot, start the server, and connect with the matching client version.

Enter the Deep Dark Together

Once the server is running and every player has Snapshot 22w12a installed, the world is ready for ancient cities, boats with chests, and extremely careful crouching. Keep backups, expect snapshot bugs, and do not count on the Warden giving second chances.
