Minecraft 1.19.1 added a useful Allay feature: duplication. It is often described as breeding, but Allays do not follow the normal animal breeding system. Instead, one Allay can create another if the right music and item are used.
Before duplicating an Allay, you need to find one. Allays can spawn in cages at pillager outposts and in jail rooms inside woodland mansions. They are not guaranteed to appear, so more than one structure may need to be checked.
Once an Allay is found, give it an item. The Allay will follow you and search for more of that same item nearby. That is all it takes to make it your helpful little collector friend.
To duplicate an Allay, collect these items:
Wooden planks come from logs, while the diamond and amethyst shard require mining. Music discs can be found in loot chests around the world, with dungeons being a useful place to search. They can also be obtained through mob interactions, though that method depends more on luck and timing.
Use the eight wooden planks and one diamond to craft a Jukebox. Place the planks around the crafting grid with the diamond in the center.
Set the jukebox down somewhere safe, then keep the music disc and amethyst shard ready. The Allay needs to be close enough to hear the music.
Insert the music disc into the jukebox. When the Allay hears the music, it starts dancing. While it is dancing, give it an amethyst shard.
If everything is done correctly, the Allay duplicates and creates a second Allay. The process can be repeated once every five minutes as long as you have more amethyst shards.
Duplicated Allays can help collect matching dropped items, making them useful around farms, builds, or messy storage projects. They are charming, helpful, and much less judgmental about clutter than most players deserve.
