How to Change the Minecraft Java Edition Version

Whether you want to use mods, wait for plugin updates, or simply relive the nostalgia of previous versions, here we show you how to do it without getting lost.

Open the Minecraft Java Edition launcher 📥.

At the top, go to Installations 🛠️.

Press New Installation ➕.

Select an icon and a name for your installation 🖼️.

Open the dropdown menu for Version and choose the one you want 📜.

Once configured, press Create 🚀.

Done! Now you can see your new installation in the Installations tab. To start playing, just hover over your installation and press Play 🎮.

Sometimes you'll want to edit or manage your installations. Here's how:

• Search and Sort 🔍: Use the search bar and sorting options to find your installation easily.

• Version Filters 📂: Filter by version to see only the ones you're interested in.

• Open Directory 📁: Hover over a version and press Open Directory to access the installation files. Ideal for installing mods.

• More Options ⚙️: Edit, duplicate, or delete a version according to your needs.

Solution✔️​: Use the search bar or version filters to locate it quickly.

Understanding how to manage and change Minecraft versions is crucial for a smooth gaming experience. Some servers use ViaVersion to allow connections from different versions, but when this is not available, it's essential that the server version matches your device's.
