How to Add Plugins to a Proxy Server in Minecraft

Minecraft·March 22, 2026·6 min read

Within Minecraft, plugins are often used to expand gameplay, while proxy servers link multiple servers together. It is also possible to add plugins to the proxy server, which can further expand gameplay elements across all servers. With Holy Hosting, it is very easy to install plugins on your own server, so today we will cover the types of proxy server plugins and how to install them.

Summary:

Most proxy servers, like Bungeecord, already have Bukkit built in. This means a "plugins" folder should already be generated for use, allowing easy drag-and-drop uploads. There are two types of proxy plugins that can be used:

Proxy-Side Plugins:

These plugins are specifically designed to be installed on a proxy and will communicate accordingly. An example of this is LuckPerms, which has a specific download for proxies.

These types of plugins will often affect the proxy server itself or provide changes that can affect all servers at once.

Proxy Server Selection Plugin

These plugins are installed on regular servers but can communicate with other servers linked together. An example is server selection plugins that can transport a player between servers from within the game.

How to Install Proxy Plugins:

The process for installing proxy plugins is very similar to other Bukkit-based servers, so those familiar with that process will find it easier to understand.

1. Download your desired Proxy plugins. Proxy Plugin List

2. Go to your Holy Hosting Server Panel.

3. Turn off the server and then go to "FTP File Access" on the left side.

4. Log in, then enter the "plugins" folder.

5. Press "Upload" in the upper left and then drag and drop the .jar file

of the desired plugin.

6. Once it's loaded to 100%, click on the server name at the top and then start the server.

The plugin has now been installed and should be accessible for use in-game or through configuration!

Conclusion:

Overall, adding plugins to a proxy server setup is an excellent option for adding new features to your servers, improving aesthetics, or adding moderation functions. With so many proxy-compatible plugins, there are many to choose from and add to your gameplay. It can be difficult to know where to start, so we will also provide some common plugins for you to examine and consider using on your own server.
