How to Host a Roguelike Adventures and Dungeons 2 Server

Minecraft·May 20, 2026·23 min read

Overview

Minecraft already has plenty of wandering, mining, fighting, and accidental cliff decisions. Roguelike Adventures and Dungeons 2 pushes that adventure loop much further with a full modpack built around exploration, progression, and dangerous structures.

Instead of relying on the usual strongholds and a few scattered points of interest, Roguelike A-D 2 adds new bosses, gear, mobs, villages, biomes, and large dungeon areas. Enemies also scale over time, so waiting forever to gear up is not always the master plan it seems to be.

This guide explains how to install Roguelike Adventures and Dungeons 2 on a HolyHosting Minecraft server, install the client pack through CurseForge, and understand the main early-game systems.

Install Roguelike A-D 2 on the Server

  1. Open the HolyHosting server panel and stop your Minecraft server.
  2. Find the Game File or version selector area.
  1. Search for Roguelike Adventures and Dungeons 2.
  2. Select the modpack and follow the prompts to change the server version.
  3. Generate a new world when asked.
  4. Restart the server so the modpack can begin loading.

The first startup may take several minutes because the server needs to install the pack files and generate a modded world. Once the status shows online, the server should be ready for players using the same modpack version.

Install the Client Modpack

Each player needs the modpack installed locally before joining. The easiest method is through the CurseForge app.

  1. Download and set up the CurseForge launcher for your operating system.
  2. Open CurseForge and go to the Browse Modpacks tab.
  3. Search for Roguelike Adventures.
  1. Select Roguelike Adventures and Dungeons 2 from the results.
  2. Click Install in the top-right corner.
  3. Return to My Modpacks once installation finishes.
  4. Press Play on the pack.

After Minecraft launches with the modpack enabled, connect to your server like normal.

First Steps in the World

Starting Gear and Interface Changes

When you spawn, the world will immediately feel different from vanilla Minecraft. The HUD includes extra information such as a minimap, stat details, and other modded interface elements. Your inventory also starts with useful items, including basic weapons, food, armor, a shield, and several books.

The gear helps you survive the first few minutes, but the books matter throughout the whole playthrough.

Akashic Tome

The Akashic Tome looks simple, but it acts as a library for many mod guidebooks. Right-click it while holding it to transform it into another available guide, such as a Bestiary or Animal Dictionary. This is useful when a mod introduces a mechanic that is not obvious from staring at it suspiciously.

To turn the book back into the Akashic Tome, left-click a block while holding it.

Quest Book

The Quest Book is one of the most important starting items. Right-click it to open the modpack quest menu, which includes information about Roguelike A-D 2, dimension changes, difficulty scaling, and progression systems.

Read through the early quest pages and claim rewards by clicking the checkbox when available. After that, use the quest categories on the left side of the menu to follow different progression paths. These quests are a good way to avoid wandering aimlessly until something with too much health finds you first.

Leveling and Stats

Roguelike A-D 2 includes a leveling system tied to actions you perform. Moving, jumping, gathering items, and fighting mobs can all provide experience toward different stats.

For example, running and jumping can improve agility, which helps your movement and overall performance. Combat-focused actions can improve your ability to deal damage. Spending time raising these stats early is worthwhile, especially before entering larger dungeons.

Exploring the World

Once you understand the basic interface and starter items, begin exploring nearby structures and villages. Many worlds include lampposts with directional signs. Following these signs on the first day is often a smart move because they can lead to villages or other useful locations.

Better Villages

Villages in Roguelike A-D 2 are much more interesting than standard Minecraft villages. They can include new building designs, improved layouts, and extra villager roles such as guards and foresters.

A village can be a safe early base, a trading hub, or a quick source of supplies. Whether you settle down or just borrow a few things forever, villages are worth checking before heading into more dangerous areas.

Dungeons and Combat Encounters

Dungeons are a major part of the pack. Across the world, you can find large structures packed with enemies, loot, and special challenges. Each dungeon has its own layout and threat level.

One example is The Foundry, an underground dungeon that becomes harder as you descend. Expect lava, blazes, skeletons, magma cubes, and other hostile mobs. Bring armor, food, blocks, weapons, and an exit plan.

Smaller structures can also contain combat encounters and loot chests. Some of these areas include boss-style enemies, usually stronger versions of normal mobs with more health and damage. Defeating them can provide worthwhile rewards, but charging in underprepared is a quick way to donate your inventory to the floor.

New Biomes to Find

Roguelike A-D 2 adds many new places to explore. Some biomes feel close to vanilla Minecraft, while others have a more distinct look and better building potential.

Blossoming Fields

Blossoming Fields are bright, open areas filled with colorful flowers and cherry blossom trees. The wide space makes them a strong choice for a scenic base location.

Rose Fields

Rose Fields are covered with roses across large stretches of land. Visibility can be lower than in open plains, but a raised base or tower can solve that while giving you a useful lookout point.

Seasonal Forests

Seasonal Forests use warm autumn colors, with trees in red, orange, and yellow tones. They are excellent for atmosphere, but darker forest areas can still spawn hostile mobs, so lighting matters.

Prairie

Prairie biomes are simpler, grassy areas with access to water. They work well for farms, starter bases, and open builds where you want fewer trees blocking the view.

Difficulty Scaling

Roguelike A-D 2 becomes harder as the world progresses. After 3 in-game days, mobs begin gaining more health and may spawn with better equipment. The difficulty can increase further based on how many players are online.

Major milestones also affect danger levels. Killing the Wither, entering the End, or defeating the Ender Dragon can make the world more punishing. Enemies may spawn in larger groups, hit harder, behave differently, and reward more experience.

The best answer is steady preparation. Upgrade gear, increase stats, complete quests, and avoid treating every dungeon like a casual stroll with snacks.

Common Problems

Unable to Join the Server

Most join issues come from a mismatch between the client and server setup. Roguelike A-D 2 must be installed on the server and on every player computer. Make sure players launch Minecraft through the installed CurseForge profile before connecting.

If you see an in-game error or a console message, check it closely because it usually points toward the cause. An Incompatible FML modded server warning can sometimes appear because of the number of mods in the pack. In some cases, joining anyway still works.

Server Stuck Starting or Crashing

A first launch can take several minutes while files install and the world generates. If the server never finishes starting, confirm that a new world was generated during setup. Old worlds from another version or pack can cause crashes.

If mods were manually added or removed and you are trying to keep the same world, the server may require confirmation before startup continues. In the console, entering `/fml confirm` can allow Forge to proceed when it is waiting for approval.
