Factorio Space Age Planets Guide: Resources, Items, and Planet Challenges

Factorio·October 30, 2024·21 min read

Factorio: Space Age adds interplanetary exploration, turning the factory from a local pollution problem into a multi-planet logistics problem. The expansion includes Nauvis plus four additional planets: Vulcanus, Gleba, Fulgora, and Aquilo.

How Planets Work in Space Age

Planets in Factorio: Space Age are endless, including Nauvis. The game only procedurally generates chunks when needed, so planets across different servers will not be identical. Each world has its own resources, items, hazards, and production problems to solve.

Nauvis

Nauvis is the main Factorio planet and feels the most Earth-like, with grasslands, deserts, and familiar starter resources. It has Iron Ore, Copper Ore, Coal, Stone, Uranium Ore, Crude Oil, Water, Wood, and Raw Fish.

It is not completely safe. Biters and Spitters become more aggressive as pollution spreads and the factory grows. If pollution reaches a spawner, attacks can follow, so defense and pollution control matter early.

  • Water
  • Wood
  • Raw Fish

Vulcanus

Vulcanus is a hot volcanic world of lava rivers, ash plains, and volcanic peaks. Named after the Roman god of fire and metalworking, it pushes players toward heat, mining, and heavy industry.

The major threat here is the Demolisher, a boss-like giant worm creature. Defeating Demolishers unlocks map chunks and grants access to valuable resources, especially Tungsten.

Exclusive Items

  • Metallurgic Science Pack
  • Foundry
  • Big Mining Drill
  • Turbo Transport Belt
  • Turbo Underground Belt
  • Turbo Splitter

Natural Resources

  • Coal
  • Tungsten
  • Sulfuric Acid
  • Calcite

Gleba

Gleba is a lush world of fungal hills, swampy lowlands, biological processing, and spider-like Pentapods. Its biggest mechanic is item spoilage. Many biological products have timers, and when those timers hit zero, the items spoil.

This makes throughput more important than stockpiling. On Gleba, a big buffer can become a large pile of expired regret.

Spoilage Timers

  • Agricultural Science Pack: 1 hour
  • Biter Egg: 30 minutes
  • Bioflux: 2 hours
  • Copper Bacteria: 1 minute
  • Raw Fish: 2 hours, 5 minutes, and 50 seconds
  • Iron Bacteria: 1 minute
  • Jellynut: 1 hour
  • Nutrients: 5 minutes
  • Pentapod Egg: 15 minutes

  • Copper Bacteria
  • Iron Ore
  • Yumako
  • Jellynut

Fulgora

Fulgora is a harsh desert planet with plateaus, oil sands, and violent nighttime lightning storms. Bases need protection from lightning through Lightning Rods, Lightning Collectors, or Fulgoran Lightning Attractors.

The planet's weak solar output makes lightning power especially valuable. Harnessing storms is not optional for long-term factory growth.

Exclusive Items

  • Electromagnetic Science Pack
  • Electromagnetic Plant
  • Lightning Collector
  • Lightning Rod
  • Recycler
  • Tesla Turret

Natural Resources

  • Ice

  • Batteries
  • Advanced Circuits
  • Processing Units
  • Low-Density Structures

Aquilo

Aquilo is a freezing ocean planet covered in liquid ammonia oceans. The main challenge is extreme cold, which forces players to use heat towers and pipes to keep machines operational.

Solar is nearly useless here compared with Nauvis. Panels produce only 0.6 kW per day, or about 1% of Nauvis solar output, so heat planning is central to survival.
