Disable Minecraft Java 1.19.1 Chat Reports With No Chat Reports

Minecraft·July 19, 2022·9 min read

Minecraft Java Edition 1.19.1 added chat reporting, a feature that allows player messages to be reported and can result in global server bans. Java Edition does not include an official switch to disable chat reports, but the modding community created third-party options for players and server owners who want a different setup.

A Third-Party Approach

Before installing anything, it is important to understand the tradeoff. Disabling chat reports on Java Edition requires modifying the client, the server, or both. There is no official vanilla setting that turns the system off.

For Minecraft Java Edition, this can be done with mods. The setup is not especially complicated, but it does require matching the mod to the correct loader and game version.

No Chat Reports Mod

The mod used here is “No Chat Reports” by Aizistral. It became a common choice for players who wanted to limit message reporting, and it can be installed in several ways.

Client Only

When installed only on the client, messages can still be reported, but they are sent without a signature. That means a reported message is effectively anonymous and lacks proof that it came from your account.

This setup will not work if the server has `enforce-secure-profile` set to true. In that case, No Chat Reports will show a warning.

Server Only

When installed only on the server, player messages still include signatures when sent, but the server removes those signatures and converts the messages into system messages. This prevents chat reporting from working for players on that server.

The server install can also be configured to avoid sending messages as system messages, but that may cause strange chat behavior, especially for players using “Only Show Secure Chat.”

Client and Server

When the mod is installed on both the client and server, signatures are removed before messages reach the server, and the server does not attempt to verify them.

Client-Side Installation

To install No Chat Reports on a client, you need Forge or Fabric. The steps below use the CurseForge Launcher because it keeps the process straightforward.

  1. Download and install the CurseForge Launcher.
  2. Open the launcher and select the Minecraft Java Edition install directory if it is not detected automatically.
  3. Click “Create Custom Profile” in the top-right corner.
  4. Choose Forge or Fabric based on your preference, then name the profile.
  5. Click create and wait for the profile to finish installing.
  6. Download the matching version of “No Chat Reports”.
  7. Right-click the new profile and select “Open Folder.”
  8. Open the `mods` folder and move the No Chat Reports `.jar` file into it.
  9. Launch the profile and play.

Server-Side Installation

Installing No Chat Reports on a server also requires Forge or Fabric. Use the loader that matches your server version and the mod file you downloaded.

  1. Install Forge or Fabric on the server.
  2. Download the matching version of “No Chat Reports”.
  3. Upload the mod file to the server’s `mods` folder.
  4. Restart the server.

After the restart, the server-side installation is complete.

Final Notes

Chat reporting is intended to help moderate harmful behavior, but many private server owners prefer to control moderation themselves. No Chat Reports is a third-party option for Minecraft Java Edition 1.19.1 players and administrators who want to change how message signatures and reports behave.
