Reduce Minecraft Server Lag with the ClearLagg Plugin

Minecraft·May 20, 2026·3 min read

What ClearLagg Does

Lag is the eternal villain of every Minecraft server owner. It tends to show up when builds get massive, mob farms run unchecked, or a player dumps a chest's worth of items into a single chunk. Hardware matters too, but on solid hosting you can usually trace lag back to whatever is happening inside the world itself.

ClearLagg is a Spigot plugin built to deal with exactly that. It removes problem entities such as dropped items, idle mobs, and similar clutter that piles up over time. If a player scatters thousands of items in one chunk, ClearLagg clears them out so the server keeps ticking at a normal pace.

Requirements

The plugin needs a Paper or Spigot server JAR to run. Paper is the better choice in most cases since it ships with performance improvements out of the box. If your server is still on vanilla, switch the JAR first before installing the plugin.

Installing ClearLagg

You can install ClearLagg directly through your HolyHosting control panel. Upload the plugin JAR into the plugins folder, restart the server, and the configuration files will generate on their own. From there you can adjust intervals, warning messages, and what kinds of entities get cleared.
