American Truck Simulator Console Commands and How to Enable Them

American Truck Simulator·September 5, 2024·11 min read

American Truck Simulator is designed around steady deliveries and careful driving, but the console gives players a way to test, troubleshoot, or bend the simulation a little. Before any commands can be used, the developer console must be enabled in the game's config file.

Enable Console Commands

Make sure American Truck Simulator is closed first. Then find the game's home directory. The default location depends on the operating system:

  • Windows: <User>\Documents\American Truck Simulator- Linux: ~/Library/Application Support/American Truck Simulator
  • macOS: <User>/.local/share/American Truck Simulator/

Open config.cfg in a text editor such as Notepad. Find the variables uset g_developer and g_console, then change their values from 0 to 1. Save the file.

Launch the game and load a save. If the change worked, the command console opens with the tilde key (~) by default.

Server permissions may affect access to console or admin features. On an American Truck Simulator server, ask the server administrator whether the required permissions are available.

Important Notes Before Using Commands

Back up the save file before experimenting with console commands. Commands can be useful, but they can also create problems if used carelessly.

American Truck Simulator does not include a money cheat or add money console command. Players who want faster money or EXP gain need to use mods, such as Steam Workshop economy mods, rather than a built-in command.
