How to Add a Password and Whitelist to a Hytale Server

Hytale·May 20, 2026·7 min read

A private Hytale server is easier to manage when random players cannot wander in uninvited. You can use a server password for a quick access gate, then add a whitelist when you want tighter control over who can join. Belts and suspenders, but for your blocky chaos.

Set a Hytale Server Password

  • Open your server panel and choose Config Files from the panel sidebar.
  • Select Hytale Server Settings.
  • Find Server Password, enter the password you want players to use, then save the file.
  • Restart the server so the new password takes effect.

Anyone joining after the restart will need that password before they can enter the world.

Enable the Hytale Whitelist

The whitelist is managed from the console with a couple of direct commands. Make sure the server is running before sending them.

  • Open Console in your server panel.
  • Enter `whitelist on` and send the command.
  • Watch for the confirmation message: `Whitelist enabled!`

Add Players to the Whitelist

  • Open Console again if you are not already there.
  • Run `whitelist add [username]`, replacing `[username]` with the player account you want to allow.
  • A successful command should return: `Added [username] to the whitelist!`

Check the Whitelist File

You can also review the whitelist configuration file directly. Stop the server before editing `whitelist.json`, since changing live configuration files is a good way to create a mystery you did not ask for.

  • In the server panel, open Config Files.
  • Choose Hytale Whitelist.
  • Review the listed Hytale account IDs and whether whitelist mode is enabled.

Only edit this file manually if you understand the format. For most servers, the console commands are the safer option. Once the password and whitelist are set, your Hytale world is limited to the players you approve.
