How to Accept the Minecraft EULA in eula.txt

Minecraft EULA File Basics

Minecraft servers on version 1.7.10 and newer require the server owner to accept Mojang's EULA before the server will fully start. This acceptance is stored in a small text file named `eula.txt`, usually located in the main server directory.

Inside that file is a setting that starts as `eula=false`. To confirm that you agree to the Minecraft EULA, change it to `eula=true`, save the file, and restart the server. Simple enough, though the legal part is not just decorative confetti.

The EULA matters because Minecraft server owners cannot charge real money for in-game items or perks that give paying players an advantage over players who do not pay. Cosmetic perks, such as colored names, trails, pets, or visual effects, are generally treated differently, but always check Mojang's official Minecraft EULA documentation for the exact rules.

If the server is started before the EULA is accepted, the console will stop the launch and show messages explaining that the EULA must be agreed to first.

Accepting the EULA

  1. Open your server files.
  2. Find `eula.txt` in the main server directory.
  3. Open the file in a text editor.
  4. Change `eula=false` to `eula=true`.
  5. Save the file and upload it again if you edited it locally.
  6. Restart the server.

After the restart, the server should continue loading normally as long as the file was saved correctly.
