Abiotic Factor Mycofields Portal Guide: Tarasque Ichor, Heat Resistance, and Loot

Abiotic Factor·August 4, 2025·15 min read

The Mycofields become important as Abiotic Factor's story pushes deeper into Cascade Labs. Reaching this portal is not just a matter of finding the right door. Players also need Tarasque Ichor, enough heat protection, and a reasonable plan for the unfriendly wildlife waiting on the other side.

How to Open the Mycofields Portal

Start by taking the main elevator to Level 2. From there, move into Containment Block DIRAC, enter the first door on the right, and pass through the security checkpoint. Continue down the long corridor until another checkpoint comes into view. The dead body and the "Live Fire Zone" sign are good signs, in the worst possible way.

Go through the gates into Containment Block ANNING. This is where the Tarasque appears. Bring your strongest weapons, keep moving, and defeat it to access the material required for the portal repair.

After the fight, slice the Tarasque's corpse to obtain Tarasque Ichor. Do not leave without it, unless another walk through containment sounds appealing.

Backtrack out of ANNING, return through DIRAC, and head back to the main elevator. Ride it up to Portal Lab 04. The heavy fungal growth around the lab makes the correct room hard to miss.

Continue until you find the Flow Control Module. Insert the Tarasque Ichor into the console, then return to the Portal Lab 04 viewing area. Hack the nearby Class 3 Clearance keypad. Once the hack succeeds, the portal to the Mycofields becomes accessible.

Preparing for the Mycofields

Heat is the first major problem inside the Mycofields. Entering without protection can quickly punish an otherwise well-equipped scientist, so aim for at least +3 Heat Resistance before stepping through.

The most direct solution is the Fire Proximity Suit, which grants +3 Heat Resistance by itself. Trade an Air Compressor to the Blacksmith in West Manufacturing to receive it. An Air Compressor is crafted with:

  • 1x Canister
  • 1x Pressure Gauge
  • 1x Reinforced Hose
  • 1x Chain

The Fire Proximity Suit also applies the Stuffy Suit debuff, increasing thirst drain by 20% and reducing movement speed by 10%. The suit saves your skin, but it does not make jogging through mushrooms pleasant.

Other Heat Resistance options include:

  • Choose the Weathered trait during character creation for +1 Heat Resistance.
  • Equip the F.O.R.G.E. Chestplate and F.O.R.G.E. Pauldrons, which each add +1 Heat Resistance.
  • Eat food that grants Brain Freeze, such as Slushie, Rootbear Float, or Glacial Gazpacho Soup, for a temporary +1 Heat Resistance boost.

The heat is not the only hazard. Pests, Exors, Exor Monks, Mushroom Peccaries, and Mushroom Carbuncles all appear in the Mycofields. Mushroom enemies can release harmful spores, so wear head armor with the Airtight Seal buff. The Lab Mask is a practical option and can be found around the facility, especially on Level 2.

Leaving through the Mycofields exit portal gives the Medi-Shroom buff, restoring +1 Health per second.
