Minecraft Movie 2 Confirmed: Release Date, Returning Cast, and Story Predictions

Minecraft·October 10, 2025·6 min read

The sequel to A Minecraft Movie is officially happening, and fans will not have to wait long. A confirmation post made the news official, locking in a release window less than two years away. Here is what is currently known about the date, the likely returning faces, and where the story could head next.

Release Date Locked In

The follow-up film, currently titled A Minecraft Movie 2, is set to land in theaters on July 23, 2027. The reveal came through the official Minecraft X account, with the news spreading simultaneously across the other official Minecraft channels. No trailer or teaser has surfaced yet, but with two summer cycles ahead, that should change well before opening weekend.

Returning Cast: Who Is Likely Back

No cast members have been officially confirmed at the time of writing. That said, it would be a strange Minecraft sequel without Jack Black reprising his role as Steve, so consider him a near-lock. Most of the principal cast also has a reasonable shot at returning in some form:

  • Jack Black as Steve
  • ??? as Alex
  • Jason Momoa as Garrett "The Garbage Man" Garrison
  • Danielle Brooks as Dawn
  • Emma Myers as Natalie
  • Sebastian Eugene Hansen as Henry
  • Jennifer Coolidge as Vice Principal Marlene

The biggest casting question hovers over Alex, who appeared in a brief, faceless post-credits cameo at the end of the first film. The uncredited spot leaves plenty of room for a high-profile reveal, and online speculation is already running hot.

Where the Plot Could Go

The first film only scratched the surface of the Overworld and barely touched destinations like the Nether or the End. Of those two, the End feels like the strongest setup. Henry's brief encounter with an Enderman in the original became a fan-favorite moment, and that kind of reaction rarely goes ignored by a major studio. An End-focused sequel with the Ender Dragon as the central threat would be a safe and satisfying play.

Another popular theory points to a new antagonist from the real world stumbling into the Overworld, much like Garrett did. After clocking the potential for profit (and the very large, very angry dragon), they could try to weaponize it. That would push the original heroes back into action to clean up the mess.

All of this is still speculation until more official details arrive. The first trailer should be the next major checkpoint, and it will give a much clearer read on the tone, scope, and casting choices for the sequel.
