Pirate fans have been counting down for months. After a wildly popular February 2026 demo pushed Windrose past 1.5 million Steam wishlists, the swashbuckling sandbox is finally moving into paid territory. If you have been waiting to round up a crew and set sail on a dedicated server, here is the full breakdown of what to expect at launch.
Mark your calendar for April 14 at 4am EDT. That is the exact moment Windrose unlocks on both Steam and the Epic Games Store. PC only at launch, so console pirates will need to wait their turn at the rigging.
Two editions will be available on day one:
Both versions automatically upgrade to the 1.0 release at no extra cost, even though the full version will carry a higher price tag once it ships. Buying in now is effectively a discount, with the small catch that the game is, by definition, still unfinished.
The developers, Windrose Crew, are blunt about the runway: the full release is roughly 1.5 to 2.5 years away. Their reasoning is straightforward. Windrose is a large, systems-heavy game, and they would rather ship rolling updates with player input than disappear into a black box for two years and hope for the best.

Compared to the demo, the launch build is a serious step up. Expect roughly 50 to 70 hours of main story content spread across three distinct biomes, each one packing its own primary quests and side missions.
Other confirmed features at launch:
If you have not touched the demo yet, do it before April 14. Anyone who logs time in the demo earns an exclusive in-game spyglass that carries over to the Early Access build. It is the closest thing to a real-world treasure map, minus the dirt.
Windrose works best with friends, and a dedicated server keeps the world running whether you are online or asleep. HolyHosting will support Windrose servers so your crew can keep plundering on their own schedule. Keep an eye on the games catalog as launch day approaches for plan availability and pricing.
