How to Speed Up CS:GO Match Replays

Counter Strike Source·May 20, 2026·11 min read

Overview

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive rewards sharp aim, clean movement, and the ability to learn from mistakes. That also means reviewing old matches can be genuinely useful, especially after a game where something felt off. Maybe an opponent looked suspicious, maybe your crosshair placement was drifting, or maybe a spray pattern betrayed you at the worst possible second.

CS:GO includes replay tools for this, but they are not especially obvious. The main control panel is called DemoUI, and it lets you pause, skip, slow down, or fast forward a downloaded match demo. Once it is open, you can move through a replay much faster than watching every round in real time. Your patience deserves better than a full 45-minute rerun.

What DemoUI Does

DemoUI is the built-in replay interface for CS:GO demos. It includes speed controls, round skipping, death skipping, pause controls, and a timeline slider. The catch is that you need to open it manually with a console command.

Before using it, make sure the Developer Console is enabled in your CS:GO settings. Without the console, you cannot enter the command needed to show DemoUI.

Download a Match Replay

You need a local copy of the match before you can control it with DemoUI. CS:GO usually only offers recent matches for download, so older games may no longer be available through the in-game menu. Once a replay is downloaded, it stays saved on your computer unless you remove it.

  1. Launch CS:GO from your Steam Library.
  2. From the main menu, open Watch Matches and Tournaments.
  1. Go to Your Matches to see your recent match history.
  1. Select the match you want to review, then choose Download near the lower-right corner.
  1. Wait for the download to finish, then click Watch to start the replay.

Fast Forward a CS:GO Replay

After the replay loads, you can open DemoUI and control the playback speed.

  1. Start the downloaded replay.
  2. Open the Developer Console.
  3. Type `demoui`, then submit the command.
  1. In the DemoUI window, use the speed Multiplier or adjust the Scale percentage near the top-right area.
  2. To jump through the replay instead of changing playback speed, use the Round or Death skip controls.

If everything is working, the replay will speed up based on the value you selected. Set it back to `1x` when you want normal playback again.

Troubleshooting

Fast Forward Is Not Working

Make sure the replay is not paused. Speed changes generally apply while the demo is actively playing. If the replay still refuses to cooperate, return to Your Matches, delete the local demo, and download it again. Demo files can occasionally fail in boring, inconvenient ways.

Speed Will Not Reset

If the replay gets stuck at an odd speed, click Stop in DemoUI, then relaunch the demo and try again. If you skipped too far ahead, use the timeline slider to move back to the moment you wanted instead of relying only on speed controls.
