Windrose Boss Guide: How to Beat Thomas Richards in the Coastal Jungle

The Coastal Jungle in Windrose has plenty of ways to ruin a new pirate's day. Boars, bandits, the occasional undead nuisance, and eventually a boss who actively wants you dead. That boss is Thomas Richards, and clearing him out is the gateway to the next major biome. This guide covers where to find him, what to bring, and how to survive the encounter.

Locating Thomas Richards

Thomas Richards is Windrose's first true boss encounter, and he holes up in the Coastal Jungle biome. The fight waits at the end of the Revenge is Best Served Cold main questline.

The signal is simple. When a quest objective asks you to track down four Black Marks, you are on the path to Richards. The marks live inside Blackbear Outposts scattered around the biome. Clear out the pirate garrisons, crack open every Richard's Crew Chest, and pocket the markers.

With all four in hand, set sail. Follow the questline pin on your map, beach your ship, and carve through the welcoming committee until you reach the Hideout Entrance. Interacting with it kicks off the duel.

Gearing Up for the Fight

Plenty of would-be pirate captains underestimate this fight. The fix is preparation. Pack supplies that heal you and supplies that hit harder.

Recommended consumables:

• Bandages and Health Potions for emergency healing.
• Elixir of Cruelty for a flat 8% damage boost.
• Coconut Milk with Bananas to raise Endurance, which translates into more stamina for blocking and dodging.

For weapons, a Musket handles long-range pokes and a Greatsword does the heavy lifting up close. The Saber and Rapier swing faster, but the Greatsword's heavy slashes chew through poise shields without forcing you to land perfect parries every time. That extra forgiveness matters when the boss decides to misbehave.

Winning the Duel

Pop the Elixir of Cruelty and the Coconut Milk before you cross the threshold. The instant you walk in, lock onto Richards. Losing sight of him inside a small room is the fastest way to eat a free hit.

His attacks hurt. A single full combo can erase most of your health bar, so treat every swing seriously. The upside is that his patterns are readable. Block, parry, or roll, and do not get greedy with retaliation.

Read the rhythm. Richards typically swings twice, then either steps back to reset or pushes forward into a heavy follow-up. Watch what he does after the second swing and respond accordingly. Punish only when he is committed and recovering.

If he tags you, back off, apply a Bandage or drink a Potion, and re-engage. Slow and patient beats aggressive and dead.

Two attacks to memorize

• Grab attack: Unblockable. When his hand flashes red, dodge. Do not try to tank it.
• Bomb toss: The fuse gives you a window to step out of the blast radius before it goes off.

Co-op strategy

On a Windrose server with friends, assign your sharpest parry merchant as the tank. They draw aggro and parry. Once Richards staggers from a broken poise bar, the rest of the party piles in and converts the opening into raw damage.
