The opening hour of Voyagers of Nera throws a lot at you. A waking-up-in-a-cavern intro, a Spirit in trouble, your first hostile creature, and tucked into all of that, a quietly glowing stone called an Ancient Fragment. These pieces matter more than the tutorial lets on. They unlock upgrades, structures, and most of the magical gear you will rely on for the next dozen hours of Voyagers of Nera. Below is the practical breakdown of where they hide and what you actually do with them.

The opening sequence ends with a fragment rotating in the air and a popup that explains the hold-to-collect mechanic. That prompt is the game telling you "this resource is special, pay attention." From that point onward, Ancient Fragments are seeded across every named region of Nera's oceans, so you are never far from one if you know what to look for.
Two patterns stand out:
In the early game, the Timeworn Sanctuary to the south is the easiest farm. It is a long bridge running over open water, with almost no plant cover blocking your line of sight, so spotting fragments becomes basically point-and-collect. After you clear an area, give it some in-game time. Fragments respawn in or near their original positions, so looping the same route on a timer is a perfectly valid strategy.

Ancient Fragments are not a crafting reagent in the traditional sense. You will not see them listed under weapon or armor recipes. Their job is structural and progression-gated:
The most important of those structures is the Manaforge. Once it is up, you can craft the Glider, the Skimmer, and a small library of jewelry that buffs different playstyles. Hitting the Manaforge milestone is, for most players, the moment Nera opens up properly. Until then, treat every fragment you spot as a small step toward that point and route your exploration accordingly.
