More than a decade after release, every Left 4 Dead 2 player has already chewed through the official campaigns and their DLCs. The good news is the Steam Workshop keeps the zombie tide fresh, with thousands of community campaigns ready to download. Below are the five most subscribed community maps, ranked from fifth to first.

No one expected the apocalypse to drop you into a Minecraft town, yet here we are. Deathcraft II recasts the survivors as blocky versions of themselves, fighting an equally blocky horde across a pixelated settlement after the last minecart has already pulled out.
The campaign is old enough that a couple of compatibility quirks can pop up. If something refuses to load or runs strangely, the comments and community discussions on the Workshop page list the standard fixes.

Back to a recognizable skyline. Day Break crashes the survivors into San Francisco with a tight deadline: get out before the military levels the city. The route takes you past the Palace of Fine Arts and Fort Point before wrapping up with a finale on Alcatraz. Sightseeing is encouraged, but a Tank will not wait for you to finish the photo.

The outbreak is not a domestic problem. Zengcheng moves the action to one of the eleven districts of Guangzhou, capital of China's Guangdong province. The setting alone is reason enough to play, with detailed streets and landmarks giving the campaign a distinct identity, all while the usual special infected do their best to ruin the view.

Five days into the outbreak, the survivors are hiding in the woods waiting for an extraction that may never come. A radio broadcast points them toward the local high school as the new evacuation site, and the trip there is anything but quiet. Back To School is a cinematic six-chapter campaign that drags you through several environments and an entire fictional city before letting up.

Topping the workshop is Urban Flight, the most subscribed Left 4 Dead 2 community campaign ever uploaded. It strands the survivors in a burning city with one slim escape route: a small airfield on the far side of the river. The level design, scripted events and easter eggs all feel polished enough to pass for official Valve content. If you only try one campaign from this list, make it this one.
These five campaigns are only the tip of the iceberg. The Workshop has thousands more maps in every flavor, from serious horror remakes to absurd novelty runs, and all of them install with a single click from Steam. Pick a campaign, round up your usual squad, and go find that extraction team.
