Knowing the terrain in The Isle is the difference between catching dinner and becoming it. Geography decides which dinosaur eats and which one starves, where ambushes work, and which slopes will quietly end a 30-hour run. This guide walks through every map currently in the game, lists the points of interest worth memorizing, and packs in the spawn coordinates that keep both carnivores and herbivores from going hungry.

The Isle runs across two development branches and three playable maps. The Evrima Branch only has Gateway, while the older Legacy Branch keeps Thenyaw Island and the Test Level in rotation. Each map plays differently, so picking your dinosaur with the map in mind is half the battle.

Gateway is the active map of the Evrima Branch and replaced Isla Spiro starting with Patch 0.12.51.02. It is a generous map in every direction, packed with wallowing holes, migration zones, nesting grounds, sanctuaries, and watering holes.
The size is both a gift and a curse. For prey species, it offers countless hiding spots. The Hidden Output at -396,757.688, -20,889.048, 27,760.469, for example, sits tucked under a bridge that plenty of predators forget to check. For large carnivores, that same scale can mean walking until starvation. AI prey is out there, but reaching the right spawn at the right time is rarely straightforward.
Steam user wiredredman compiled a reference list of points of interest for Gateway, and the coordinates below come from that work.

Gateway is home to several wild animals besides the playable dinosaurs. Boars, bunnies, chickens, deer, goats, and tenontosaurs all spawn naturally, and chasing them down is often the difference between hitting growth stages and starving out. Some of these spawns are random and near the player, but the lists below cover the consistent spawn points worth remembering.

Herbivores eat more than bushes and leaves. Gateway scatters fruits, flowers, mushrooms, and root vegetables across the map, and learning these spawns is the easiest way to keep growth stages moving. The coordinates below cover the most reliable foraging zones.

Introduced in Patch 0.1.38.5, Thenyaw Island is one of the two maps in the Legacy Branch. Plenty of veterans still hail it as the strongest map the game has shipped.
A big part of that reputation is its compact footprint. Thenyaw is smaller than both Gateway and Isle V3, so encounters happen faster and predators rarely have to wander long to find a target. The map also has lakes and rivers scattered across it, which makes thirst a manageable problem rather than a constant one.
The other side of that small footprint is the terrain itself. Thenyaw is famous for its sharp hills and abrupt drops. A single misstep on the wrong slope can end a long run in an instant, so footing matters as much as anything else here.
The coordinates below cover the most useful spots on the island.

For a quick look at what the island actually looks like in motion, the official Thenyaw trailer is below:

The Test Level does exactly what its name promises. It is a sandbox for testing controls, movement, dinosaur capabilities, and console commands. Despite being a development playground, it stays surprisingly current and is updated alongside the rest of the game.
Multiplayer also works here, which is why the Test Level has become a favorite spot for PVP enthusiasts looking to settle scores fast. Skip the long journeys and the slow growth, just drop in for a deathmatch.
Visually it has very little in common with the other maps. Instead of forests, rivers, and dirt, the Test Level is full of AI pads, sound pads, portals, and other developer tools. Food and water stations are still scattered around, so even an experimental dinosaur does not have to starve while you mess with its stats.
- Gateway rewards patience, map knowledge, and stockpiled coordinates. Big and unforgiving for blind carnivores.
- Thenyaw Island is the compact classic. Fast encounters, easy access to water, and terrain that punishes bad pathing.
- Test Level is the closest The Isle has to a deathmatch lobby. Use it to practice, test builds, or fight without committing to a long run.
Memorize a handful of the coordinates above and a server full of starving rexes suddenly looks a lot more manageable.
