Driving in The Front: Fuel, Licenses, and Every Craftable Vehicle

Other Games·November 3, 2023·15 min read

The Front mixes open-world FPS with sandbox survival, and like many games in that genre it forgets to explain half its own systems. Vehicles are a good example. Nothing tells you how to fuel them, how to climb into one, or how to even legally print yourself a tank. This guide fills those gaps so you can leave the cardio behind.

Fueling a Vehicle

First surprise: most vehicles in The Front do not run on gasoline straight out of the box. They run on Crude Oil. Pour it in, and the engine is happy.

A couple of caveats before you start hunting for barrels:

  • Not every vehicle in the game needs fuel at all.
  • Only crafted vehicles can be refueled. The ones already sitting in the open world cannot.

The easiest place to find Crude Oil is the Desert biome, where containers often carry it. If exploring is not your thing, build a Manual Miner and farm the resource directly.

The Manual Miner is also conveniently undocumented. To use it, hold the Use key (default F) until a radial wheel appears, then pick Oil Collection. Leave it running and the oil will accumulate.

Once you have a stack, walk up to your vehicle, hold Use again, and choose View Vehicle. Drop the Crude Oil into the proper slot on the right side of the panel. If the gas bar in the lower left moves up, you did it correctly.

Getting Behind the Wheel

With fuel in the tank, aim at the vehicle, hold Use, and pick Get in Pilot. Your character takes the driver seat.

From there:

  • Press E to start the engine.
  • WASD moves the vehicle.
  • The mouse controls the camera.

Some vehicles, particularly tanks, come with mounted weapons. If you have ammo, the left mouse button fires. Holding SHIFT tightens your aim for shots that actually land where you want them.

Crafting Vehicles: The License System

You cannot just summon a tank from thin air. You first need a Vehicle Factory, built at the Crafting Table with:

  • 10x Machine Part
  • 25x Copper Ingot
  • 75x Stone

Once placed, interact with the Factory to craft a license. Each license is essentially a deed that lets you spawn one specific vehicle into the world.
