The 10 Strongest Weapons in Stardew Valley and How to Get Them

Other Games·June 13, 2023·27 min read

Pelican Town might sell itself on parsnips and slow afternoons by the river, but the moment you step into The Mines or the Volcano Dungeon, the cozy farming sim quietly turns into a combat game. Monsters hit hard, your tools do not cut it, and a good weapon is suddenly the difference between a productive run and a long walk back to bed.

This guide ranks the ten strongest weapons in Stardew Valley, with stats, sources, and what it actually takes to put each one in your hands.

How weapon stats actually work

Before the rankings, it helps to know what the numbers on each weapon mean. They are not all created equal, and a higher damage value does not automatically beat a faster blade.

  • Damage: the raw damage range applied to enemies on hit.
  • Speed: how fast the weapon swings. Positive numbers are good, negative numbers are not.
  • Defense: how much incoming damage is reduced while the weapon is equipped.
  • Weight: knockback strength. Higher weight shoves enemies further.
  • Critical Chance: probability of triggering a critical hit.
  • Critical Power: bonus damage applied when a crit lands.

With those in mind, here is the top ten, counted down from solid to best in slot.

10. Lava Katana

Even after the trim it took in patch 1.5, the Lava Katana is still a strong mid to late game pick. You can buy it from the Adventurer's Guild for 25,000 gold, no random drops required.

  • Damage: 55 to 64
  • Speed: standard sword speed
  • Defense: +3
  • Weight: +3
  • Critical Chance: 0.015
  • Critical Power: +25

9. Yeti Tooth

The Yeti Tooth is gated behind pure luck. It shows up randomly inside crates and barrels on floors 80 to 99 of The Mines. Stats are below the Lava Katana, but you do not pay a single coin for it, which makes it a useful budget upgrade on the way down.

  • Damage: 26 to 42
  • Speed: standard sword speed
  • Defense: +4
  • Weight: N/A
  • Critical Chance: 0.02
  • Critical Power: +10

8. Dwarf Hammer

Club fans get their first serious option here. The Dwarf Hammer drops at random from chests inside the Volcano Dungeon. No crit stats, but the base damage and chunky knockback are enough to turn most enemies into a problem for the next room.

  • Damage: 75 to 85
  • Speed: standard club speed
  • Defense: +2
  • Weight: +5
  • Critical Chance: N/A
  • Critical Power: N/A

7. Obsidian Edge

Found on floor 90 of The Mines, the Obsidian Edge has a noticeable speed penalty, so timing your swings matters. Its extra critical power partly makes up for the slower swing, and at this point in the run it is usually a clean upgrade.

  • Damage: 30 to 45
  • Speed: -1
  • Defense: N/A
  • Weight: N/A
  • Critical Chance: N/A
  • Critical Power: +10

6. Galaxy Hammer

If the Lava Katana felt expensive, the Galaxy Hammer is going to be a small heart attack. It costs 75,000 gold at the Adventurer's Guild, and you can only unlock it after picking up the Galaxy Sword. Once you take it for a swing, the receipt stops bothering you.

  • Damage: 70 to 90
  • Speed: +2
  • Defense: N/A
  • Weight: +5
  • Critical Chance: N/A
  • Critical Power: N/A

5. Infinity Dagger

The Infinity Dagger is widely considered the best dagger in the game. Crafting it requires 3x Galaxy Soul and 60x Cinder Shard at the Forge, located on the tenth floor of the Volcano Dungeon in Ginger Island. The reward is a high crit chance weapon that swings fast enough to chew through clustered enemies.

  • Damage: 50 to 70
  • Speed: +1
  • Defense: +3
  • Weight: +5
  • Critical Chance: 0.06
  • Critical Power: N/A

4. Dark Sword

The Dark Sword does not look impressive on paper, and its speed value is genuinely awful. The reason it earns a top five slot is the built in Vampiric enchantment, which gives a 9% chance of healing a portion of your HP on kill. It drops randomly from Haunted Skulls in the Quarry Mines.

  • Damage: 30 to 45
  • Speed: -5
  • Defense: N/A
  • Weight: +5
  • Critical Chance: +2
  • Critical Power: N/A
  • Enchantment: Vampiric

3. Dragontooth Cutlass

If you enjoy watching big crit numbers pop off screen, the Dragontooth Cutlass is the sword for the job. It rolls from chests in the Volcano Dungeon and pairs solid base damage with a very generous critical power bonus.

  • Damage: 75 to 90
  • Speed: standard sword speed
  • Defense: N/A
  • Weight: N/A
  • Critical Chance: 0.02
  • Critical Power: +50

2. Infinity Gavel

When the Galaxy Hammer stops being enough, the Infinity Gavel is its endgame form. Bring the Galaxy Hammer, 3x Galaxy Soul and 60x Cinder Shard to the Forge in the Volcano Dungeon. The result is the highest damage weapon in vanilla Stardew Valley.

  • Damage: 100 to 120
  • Speed: standard club speed
  • Defense: +1
  • Weight: +5
  • Critical Chance: 0.02
  • Critical Power: N/A

1. Infinity Blade

The Infinity Blade does not have a flashy perk like the Dark Sword and it does not match the Infinity Gavel's raw damage. What it has is reach, speed, and consistency. Combine a Galaxy Sword with 3x Galaxy Soul and 60x Cinder Shard at the Forge in the Volcano Dungeon to forge the best overall melee weapon in the game.

  • Damage: 80 to 100
  • Speed: +4
  • Defense: +2
  • Weight: N/A
  • Critical Chance: 0.02
  • Critical Power: N/A

Final notes

Clubs hit hardest, swords stay consistent, and daggers carve through swarms. The right pick depends on the floor, the enemy type, and how patient you are with RNG drops versus farming Cinder Shards. Stock the basics from the Adventurer's Guild, then aim for a Forge upgrade once Ginger Island is open.
