Vincent in Stardew Valley: Gifts, Reactions, and His Sole Heart Event

Other Games·November 4, 2025·15 min read

Vincent is not a marriage candidate, but he might be one of Pelican Town's most charming residents. His snail obsession and unfiltered commentary give Stardew Valley its grounded sense of community. This guide breaks down which gifts boost his friendship fastest, which ones to skip, and how to trigger his single heart event.

Who Is Vincent?

Vincent is the son of Kent and Jody, and the younger brother of Sam. You will usually spot him near the river or wandering the town square, often with snails on the brain. He attends school on weekdays alongside Jas, taught by Penny.

Even though his mother keeps a tight leash on his routine, Vincent's curiosity about the natural world makes him a great window into the simpler side of valley life. Raise his friendship enough, and you unlock a perk that translates directly into gold.

How Gifting Works for Vincent

You can hand Vincent up to two gifts per week, plus one bonus on his birthday. That birthday lands on Spring 10, and any gift given that day multiplies friendship points by eight. Save your strongest item for that date if you can.

His responses tell you exactly how the offering landed:

  • Love: "Squish squish... Ewww! Can I have it? Can I have it? Yaaay!"
  • Like: "For me? Wow, thanks!"
  • Neutral: "Thanks!"
  • Dislike: "This isn't very fun..."
  • Hate: "Yuck, what is this?"

Loved Gifts

These items earn the highest friendship boost and trigger his happiest reaction:

  • Cranberry Candy
  • Frog Egg
  • Ginger Ale
  • Grape
  • Pink Cake
  • Prismatic Shard
  • Stardrop Tea
  • Snail (added in Update 1.4.1)

Stardrop Tea actually triggers a unique line from Vincent: "Wow! It's so sweet! Mmmmm...."

Liked Gifts

A solid backup tier when you cannot scrape together something loved:

  • Coconut
  • Daffodil
  • All Milk (added in Update 1.6)

Neutral Gifts

Anything classified as a universal neutral gift fits here. Common examples include Bread, Coral, Roe, Wool, and Fried Egg. They keep you out of negative territory but barely move the friendship bar.

Disliked Gifts

Avoid handing Vincent any of these if you want to make real progress:

  • Chanterelle
  • Common Mushroom
  • Dandelion
  • Ginger
  • Hazelnut
  • Holly
  • Leek
  • Magma Cap
  • Morel
  • Purple Mushroom
  • Quartz
  • Snow Yam
  • Winter Root
  • All Eggs
  • All Fruit except Coconut, Grape, and Fruit Tree Fruit
  • All Vegetables except Hops, Wheat, and Tea Leaves

Hated Gifts

These actively damage friendship. Skip them entirely:

  • Clay (the Feast of the Winter Star is the one exception, since festival gifts ignore preferences)
  • Piña Colada
  • Triple Shot Espresso (added in Update 1.4.4)
  • Wild Horseradish
  • All Artisan Goods except Honey, Jelly, and Oil

Alcoholic drinks pull a unique reaction: "sniff... what is this? It smells awful... Mommmm!!!!" Probably a hint that handing booze to a child was not the best idea anyway.

Vincent's Heart Event

Most Stardew Valley NPCs come with multiple heart events spread across friendship milestones. Vincent has exactly one, introduced in Update 1.3.27, and it carries a strict prerequisite: you must also have eight hearts with Jas before it can fire.

Eight-Heart Cutscene

Once both friendship bars hit eight hearts, walk into Cindersap Forest on a sunny spring day between 6 AM and 5 PM. The screen fades to black, the cutscene begins, and Vincent explains how to clean insects off Spring Onions.

When the scene ends, you receive the Spring Onion Mastery. From that point on, every Spring Onion you sell is worth five times its normal value. That is a permanent multiplier on a foraging item most farmers ignore, which quietly makes Vincent's friendship one of the more lucrative side projects in the game.
