Stardew Valley Tapper Guide: Recipes, Heavy Tapper, and Tree Yields

Other Games·January 23, 2025·9 min read

In Stardew Valley, growing crops is only one slice of the income pie. Trees can also pay rent, provided you have the right tool. Tappers turn ordinary trunks into a steady source of syrups, resins, and other goods that either sell well or feed bigger crafting chains.

Unlocking and Crafting the Standard Tapper

The recipe becomes available the moment your Foraging skill hits Level 4. From that point on, you can build a Tapper at any crafting menu using 40 Wood and 2 Copper Bars.

Place the finished Tapper directly on the trunk of a qualifying tree and it will start producing items based on the tree's species. Fruit Trees are the one major exception. They politely refuse the tool. Every other tappable tree keeps yielding through all four seasons, including winter, with two caveats. Mushroom Trees and Green Rain Trees stop producing during winter, so do not expect output from those two in the cold months.

A Tapper attached to a Green Rain Tree gives you the Fiddlehead Fern, which feeds into Fiddlehead Risotto and helps complete the Chef's Bundle on the Bulletin Board.

Heavy Tapper: The Endgame Upgrade

Update 1.5 introduced the Heavy Tapper, an upgraded variant with the exact same job description and double the output. It produces the same product list as the standard model, just at twice the rate.

To unlock the recipe, head to Mr. Qi's Secret Walnut Room on Ginger Island and trade 20 Qi Gems. Once you own the recipe, each Heavy Tapper costs 30 Hardwood and 1 Radioactive Bar to build, so it is squarely a late-game investment.

Tree Yield Reference

The product depends entirely on which tree you tap. Quick lookup:

  • Maple Tree: Maple Syrup
  • Oak Tree: Oak Resin
  • Pine Tree: Pine Tar
  • Mahogany Tree: Sap
  • Mushroom Tree: Common, Red, or Purple Mushroom
  • Mystic Tree: Mystic Syrup
  • Green Rain Tree: Fiddlehead Fern

A handful of Heavy Tappers tucked into a quiet grove can quietly fund whole upgrades while you focus the spotlight on the farm itself.
