Summer in Stardew Valley: Crops, Events, and Profit Strategies

Other Games·June 29, 2023·17 min read

Summer rolls into Stardew Valley after Spring with a full 28 days of farming opportunity, hotter weather, and noticeably yellower grass. Plant smart, watch the calendar, and the season can become one of the most lucrative stretches of Year 1.

Summer Basics

The shift from Spring to Summer is rough on any leftover Spring crops sitting outside a greenhouse: they wilt the moment day 1 hits. So before going to bed on the last day of Spring, harvest anything still standing and plan your new layout. Summer brings fresh seed packs to the General Store, including a couple of high-value options that need patience but pay well.

Best Summer Crops to Plant

Summer offers 13 exclusive crops, the largest seasonal selection in the game. Trying to grow all 13 is a recipe for stretched resources and underwhelming returns. Focus on the five below for the best balance of cost, regrowth, and selling price.

Hot Pepper

A solid pick for new farmers and veterans alike. Hot Peppers mature in 5 days and regrow every 3 days, which means up to eight harvests if you plant on Summer 1. Seeds are cheap, and there is a small 3% chance of pulling an extra pepper from a single plant on each harvest.

Selling prices by quality:

  • Regular: 40g
  • Silver: 50g
  • Gold: 60g
  • Iridium: 80g

The Tiller profession adds a 10% bonus at sale.

Hops

Hops take 11 days to reach maturity, then regrow every single day after that. Planted on Summer 1, a single plant can pump out around 18 harvests by season's end. The per-unit price is modest, but the sheer volume makes Hops one of the most profitable bulk crops, especially when funneled through Kegs to brew Pale Ale.

Selling prices by quality:

  • Regular: 25g
  • Silver: 31g
  • Gold: 37g
  • Iridium: 50g

Tiller bonus applies.

Melon

Melons take 12 days to mature and have no regrowth, which caps the season at two harvests per plant. The trade-off is a high base price and a slot in the Summer Crops Bundle at the Community Center Pantry, so plan to set aside at least one quality melon for donation.

Selling prices by quality:

  • Regular: 250g
  • Silver: 312g
  • Gold: 375g
  • Iridium: 500g

Tiller bonus applies.

Starfruit

The high-investment, high-reward option. Seeds run 400g per pack from the Oasis in the Calico Desert, which is an upfront commitment. Starfruit needs 13 days to grow with no regrowth, capping the season at two harvests. Process the fruit into Starfruit Wine for an even bigger return per unit.

Selling prices by quality:

  • Regular: 750g
  • Silver: 937g
  • Gold: 1,125g
  • Iridium: 1,500g

Tiller bonus applies.

Blueberry

Probably the most balanced crop of the season. Blueberry seeds cost only 50g per pack at the General Store. Plants mature in 13 days and regrow every 4 days, dropping at least three berries per harvest with a small chance of more.

Selling prices by quality:

  • Regular: 50g
  • Silver: 62g
  • Gold: 75g
  • Iridium: 100g

Tiller bonus applies.

Summer Events and Birthdays

Summer hosts 11 scheduled events, including two festivals and nine villager birthdays. There is also a quiet but important moment in Year 1: an earthquake on Summer 3 unlocks both the railroad and the spa, opening up new traversal and stamina recovery options.

  • Summer 4: Jas' birthday
  • Summer 8: Gus' birthday
  • Summer 10: Maru's birthday
  • Summer 11: Luau Festival
  • Summer 13: Alex's birthday
  • Summer 17: Sam's birthday
  • Summer 19: Demetrius' birthday
  • Summer 22: Dwarf's birthday
  • Summer 24: Willy's birthday
  • Summer 26: Leo's birthday
  • Summer 28: Dance of the Moonlight Jellies Festival

Between Summer 12 and 14, the beach gets an extra dose of forageable items washing ashore, so set aside time for a daily walk during that window.

Extra Income Streams

Cash flow during Summer does not have to come exclusively from crops. A few side activities stack nicely on top of your harvest schedule:

  • Process with Kegs. Hops into Pale Ale, Starfruit and Melon into wine. Processed goods sell for two to three times the raw value.
  • Fish the Mountain Lake. Largemouth Bass sell for 100 to 300g, and Sturgeon range from 200 to 600g. Both are reliable picks that pair well with farming.
  • Repair the Greenhouse. Once finished, you can grow Summer crops year-round, turning a seasonal advantage into a permanent one.

A focused Summer sets up the rest of Year 1 in style. Pick a few crops you can actually maintain, hit the festivals to keep relationships moving, and do not sleep on Greenhouse progress.
