Befriending Sandy in Stardew Valley: Best Gifts and Heart Event Guide

Other Games·February 26, 2026·14 min read

Sandy runs the Oasis shop in the Calico Desert, and behind her warm smile sits one of Stardew Valley's quieter, more mysterious villagers. She hints that "Sandy" is not even her real name, just a moniker that works well for the storefront. Win her trust and you uncover someone with a lot more depth than the desert backdrop suggests. With Stardew Valley 1.7 promising to add her to the marriage roster, now is a great time to start filling that friendship bar.

Who Sandy Is and Why She Matters

Sandy is the sole keeper of the desert shop, the only place to buy Cactus Seeds and certain rare furniture pieces. Her quiet demeanor and the casual mention of an alias hint at a backstory the game never fully spells out. Emily, back in Pelican Town, drops a few clues about her in passing dialogue. None of it changes the gameplay loop, but it gives Sandy a personality that rewards players who bother to learn what she likes.

She is also confirmed as a future marriage candidate in the upcoming 1.7 update. No firm release window has been announced, so treat this guide as a head start.

How Sandy Reacts to Gifts

You can hand Sandy two gifts per week, plus a third on her birthday during Fall 15. Birthday presents grant 8x the normal friendship XP for the item's category, so save your best loved item for that day whenever possible.

Her replies tell you instantly how a gift landed:

  • Loved: "Ooo! I absolutely love getting gifts from the valley. I'm so happy!~"
  • Liked: "This looks wonderful. Thanks so much!"
  • Neutral: "This is for me? Thank you!"
  • Disliked: "Oh... Um. Thanks."
  • Hated: "sniff ...what is it?"

A handful of specific items also trigger custom dialogue. Hand her a Crocus and she comments on winter's flowers; a Daffodil earns a cheerful spring line; a Sweet Pea pulls a smell-based compliment; and the rare Stardrop Tea gets an excited "honey" out of her.

The easiest early-game route is forageable flowers. Crocus appears in winter, Daffodil in spring, and Sweet Pea in summer, so nearly every season covers at least one loved option without farming or cooking.

Sandy's Heart Event

Sandy keeps things light when it comes to cutscenes. She has exactly one Heart Event, and it triggers at seven hearts. Instead of an in-person scene, she mails you the Tom Kha Soup recipe. Open the letter, save the recipe, and the event marks itself complete. Quick and clean.

That is expected to change once 1.7 turns her into a marriage candidate. For now, this single mail-based event is the entire Heart Event arc.

On top of the recipe letter, Sandy will occasionally send one of three random gifts in the mail as long as your friendship is above zero: Coconut, Cactus Fruit, or Tom Kha Soup. None are huge, but the Coconut and Cactus Fruit are Calico Desert items that can be tricky to source otherwise.

Since Update 1.3.27, Sandy's letters arrive on white-lined stationery, so they stand out in the inbox.

Stack a few Sweet Peas in summer, save a Mango Sticky Rice for her birthday, and you can comfortably reach seven hearts inside one in-game year. After that, keep the desert bus running and wait for 1.7.
