How to Get the Meowmere Sword in Stardew Valley (Hidden 1.6 Weapon)

Other Games·March 25, 2024·12 min read

The Stardew Valley 1.6 update sneaked in a quiet love letter to Terraria players: the Meowmere, that absurd cat-projectile sword, now exists in Pelican Town. It is hidden behind a small fetch quest with a generous side of RNG, so plan on a few in-game days before it actually lands in your backpack.

This guide walks through every step in order, from digging up the trigger item to trading it deep in the Mines and finally claiming the weapon itself.

Quest Overview

Three distinct stops separate you and the sword:

  1. Recover an Ancient Doll from artifact spots.
  2. Trade it for a Faraway Stone at the bottom level of the Mines.
  3. Open a portal in the Wizard's Tower basement to receive the Meowmere.

The order matters. You cannot skip ahead, and the doll only progresses the quest in the right location.

Step 1: Get an Ancient Doll

This is usually the longest part of the hunt. Ancient Dolls drop from artifact spots, those wriggling worm-like sprites that pop out of the ground in specific maps. The valid zones are:

  • The Mountain
  • The Bus Stop
  • Pelican Town
  • Cindersap Forest

Keep a hoe ready and dig every artifact spot you pass. Daily passive farming is the fastest method here, since the drop is rolled per dig.

If you would rather try your luck at the dock, fishing for treasure chests in those same areas can also produce an Ancient Doll. The odds are noticeably worse than digging, so treat it as a backup plan rather than the main one.

Step 2: Trade the Doll for a Faraway Stone

With the Ancient Doll in hand, head to the 100th floor of the Mines. On that level you will find a small offshoot cavern containing a lava pool. Toss the doll into the lava and a bony wyrm crawls out.

Good news: it is not a fight. The wyrm simply takes the doll and hands you a Faraway Stone in return. Pick it up and head back to the surface.

If you have not been that deep before, the early Mines are a different beast from the Skull Cavern, and you will want decent food, a sword and a few staircases in your bag for safety.

Step 3: Open the Portal in the Wizard's Tower

The last stop is the Wizard's Tower at the far western edge of Cindersap Forest. A few requirements first:

  • The tower is only open between 6 AM and 11 PM.
  • You need the Wizard's invitation. Until that letter shows up in your mailbox, the door stays locked.

Once inside, walk to the north end of the room and take the ladder down to the basement. With the Faraway Stone in your active hotbar slot, interact with the tree branches on the right side of the basement. A portal opens, a cat strolls through, and you walk away with the Meowmere.

Meowmere Stats

Despite the long quest, the Meowmere is more of a novelty than a top-tier weapon. The Galaxy Sword and Infinity Blade still hit harder in late game scenarios. That said, the Meowmere does carry a respectable kit:

  • Damage: 20 to 20
  • Speed: +4
  • Weight: +2

The flat damage roll and the speed bonus make it a smooth quality-of-life weapon for clearing weaker enemies and farm pests. It is also, frankly, a great trophy to swing around just because you went through the trouble.

Final Notes

The Meowmere is not going to replace your endgame loadout, but it is one of the most charming hidden quests Stardew Valley has shipped. Save your Ancient Dolls if you are running multi-player saves, and remember that the lava trade only works on the 100th floor of the regular Mines, not the Skull Cavern.
