Stardew Valley Maple Syrup: Tappers, Profits, and Crafting Uses

Other Games·October 3, 2023·9 min read

Maple Syrup ranks among the more reliable money makers in Stardew Valley, especially during those tight first seasons when every gold piece counts. The good news: getting a steady supply only takes a bit of foraging progress and one piece of equipment.

Crafting the Tapper

The only way to harvest Maple Syrup is by attaching a Tapper to a Maple Tree. The recipe unlocks at Foraging Level 3, and building one requires 40x Wood and 2x Copper Bars.

Once placed on a maple, the Tapper needs 9 in-game days before each bottle is ready to collect. Slow, but completely passive. Plant a small grove early and you essentially have a salary running by mid year.

What Maple Syrup Is Actually Worth

Maple Syrup sells for 200g per piece, or 250g if you picked the Tapper profession in the Foraging skill tree. Eating it restores 50 energy and 22 health, which is fine in a pinch but rarely the best use of the item.

It also unlocks a few extra interactions:

  • It completes the Strange Note Quest (added in version 1.3.27).
  • It satisfies the Chef's Bundle on the Bulletin Board and the Exotic Foraging Bundle in the Crafts Room at the Community Center.
  • It works as a spool at the Sewing Machine to craft the Floppy Beanie.

Most villagers like receiving Maple Syrup as a gift. Maru is the one outlier, so save her presents for something less sticky.

Cooking the Maple Bar

Combine 1x Maple Syrup, 1x Sugar, and 1x Wheat Flour to cook a Maple Bar. Eating one restores 225 energy and 101 health, plus a temporary +1 to Farming, Fishing, and Mining. It is one of the better all purpose buffs in the game.

The recipe is not in your book by default. To learn it, tune in to The Queen of Sauce on Summer 14 of Year 2.

Building the Bee House

Maple Syrup is also a key ingredient for the Bee House, the foundation of any serious honey operation. The recipe becomes available at Farming Level 3, and crafting one calls for:

  • 40x Wood
  • 8x Coal
  • 1x Iron Bar
  • 1x Maple Syrup

Set up a few tappers, feed the syrup into bee houses, and you have two passive income streams stacked on top of each other. Stardew rewards patience, and Maple Syrup is solid proof of that.
