Linus Gift Guide in Stardew Valley: Favorites, Reactions, and Every Heart Event

Other Games·December 16, 2025·15 min read

Befriending Linus in Stardew Valley takes a little patience and the right items. He is the tent dweller in the mountains, often forgotten during the rush to romance the bachelor or bachelorette lineup, and his friendship comes with its own quiet rewards. A few well chosen gifts and a couple of timely visits unlock cutscenes and recipes you cannot get anywhere else.

Who Linus Is

Linus lives in a small camp tucked into the mountains, past the mine cart tracks. He chose a life outside of town and prefers nature, quiet mornings, and foraged meals to anything resembling a normal household. He notices things other villagers miss, including farmers who stay up too late tending crops.

He carries the weight of being treated like an outsider by most of Pelican Town, so building a real friendship with him feels different from the rest. Loyalty, gratitude, and a few unique cutscenes are the payoff.

Gifting Linus: The Basics

You can give Linus two gifts per week, plus one extra on his birthday on Winter 3. Birthday presents grant an 8x friendship multiplier, so save your strongest item for that date.

When you hand him something, his dialogue tells you the reaction tier. Use it as a rough cheat sheet:

  • Loved: "This is wonderful! You've really made my day special."
  • Liked: "This is a great gift. Thank you!" or a happy line about eating wild food.
  • Neutral: "A gift? How nice." or a brief comment about freshness.
  • Disliked: "Hmm... This doesn't really do much for me." Cash gifts also land here, since Linus thinks money is cursed.
  • Hated: "Why would you give this to me? Do you think I like junk just because I live in a tent?"

Heart Events with Linus

Linus is not on the marriage roster, but he packs more Heart Events than most non-marriage NPCs in Pelican Town. There are four to trigger across his friendship arc.

Three Hearts

A letter arrives in the mail with the Sashimi recipe. Open the letter and the event is done. The easiest of the four by a wide margin.

Four Hearts

Head to the mountain area near his tent on any non-rainy day between 8 PM and 12 AM. The cutscene fires automatically once you walk close enough. Linus invites you over, apologizes for being curt before, and hands over the Wild Bait crafting recipe as a thank you.

Seven Hearts

Another letter, another recipe. This time it delivers the Fish Tacos blueprint. Read it and the event closes out.

Eight Hearts

Added in Update 1.3.27, this one happens at Robin's house. Visit between 9 AM and 5 PM on a clear day, then walk out of the carpenter's shop. A cutscene with Linus and Robin plays, and at the end you pick one of two replies:

  • +250 Friendship: "I'm just pleased that Linus is doing well..."
  • No Effect: "I'd like to invite Linus to live on the farm with me..."

The first option locks in extra friendship. The second is purely flavor with no mechanical reward. Either way, the conversation wraps up Linus's main story content and leaves you with one of the most loyal villagers in the valley.
