Mayor Lewis Friendship Guide for Stardew Valley: Gifts and Heart Events

Other Games·November 3, 2025·15 min read

Pelican Town has stood for years under the watchful eye of one man: Mayor Lewis. He keeps the village orderly, polite, and (mostly) honest, which makes him a useful villager to befriend early in your save. Below you will find which gifts move the needle, which ones to keep out of his pockets, and every heart event he triggers along the way.

Who Is Mayor Lewis?

Lewis has served as mayor of Pelican Town for more than twenty years. The trademark mustache, the slightly formal outfit, and the calm tone make him stand out among the local NPCs. You will often see him patrolling the square or checking that everything is in order, doing his job the way mayors are supposed to.

His public side is composed and dutiful. His private side is a different story. He drinks his coffee hot, takes pride in his appearance, and keeps a mug at home next to a note signed only "M." Players who pay attention will pick up on the small details that make him feel less like a town official and more like a person with secrets.

Despite a few flaws, Lewis genuinely cares about the people who live in Pelican Town, including any new farmer who just arrived. His gentle leadership is the reason the village still feels like a small, welcoming community.

Gifting Lewis: Loves, Likes, and Mistakes

The standard NPC rules apply here. You can give Lewis two gifts per week, with a bonus opportunity on his birthday, Spring 7. Pay attention to his reactions, since the response text tells you exactly how much friendship you just gained or lost:

  • Love: "Wow, this is my favorite! Thank you!"
  • Like: "Thanks, this is great!"
  • Neutral: "That's very nice of you. Thanks."
  • Dislike: "Well, I guess it's the thought that counts..."
  • Hate: "This makes me sick. What a horrendous gift."

Loved Gifts (+80 friendship)

  • Autumn's Bounty
  • Glazed Yams
  • Green Tea (introduced in Update 1.4)
  • Hot Pepper
  • Prismatic Shard
  • Stardrop Tea
  • Vegetable Medley

A small bonus: hand him a Stardrop Tea and he gives a unique line, "I've sampled many teas in my life, but none are quite so rare and special as this. Thanks!" Worth saving one if you want a memorable interaction.

Liked Gifts (+45 friendship)

  • Blueberry
  • Cactus Fruit
  • Coconut

Neutral Gifts (+20 friendship)

  • Chanterelle
  • Common Mushroom
  • Daffodil
  • Dandelion
  • Ginger
  • Hazelnut
  • Leek
  • Magma Cap
  • Morel
  • Purple Mushroom
  • Snow Yam
  • Winter Root
  • All Eggs except Void Egg
  • All Fruits except Blueberry, Cactus Fruit, Coconut, Fruit Tree Fruit, Hot Pepper, and Salmonberry

Disliked Gifts (-20 friendship)

  • Salmonberry
  • Wild Horseradish
  • All Milk

Hated Gifts (-40 friendship)

  • Holly
  • Quartz

If inventory is tight, Hot Pepper is the cheapest love to farm. A single seed packet during summer covers months of birthday-ready gifts.

Heart Events with Mayor Lewis

Lewis is not a marriage candidate, but he still has scripted scenes that fire at certain friendship thresholds. They begin once you cross three hearts.

Three-Heart Event

Lewis mails you the recipe for Spaghetti. There is nothing to act on. Open the letter and the event is done.

Six-Heart Event

At six hearts, walk through Pelican Town on a sunny day between 7 PM and 11 PM. A cutscene plays in which you catch Lewis and Marnie together in a moment they would rather keep private. He spots you and asks if you saw anything. Two options appear on screen:

  • "Yes... but I'll keep it a secret." (+50 friendship)
  • "Yes... and I'm going to tell everyone." (-100 friendship)

The first answer is the safe pick if you care about your progress with him.

Seven-Heart Event

Same format as the three-heart letter, but this time he mails the Eggplant Parmesan recipe. Receive it and the event closes.

Reach seven hearts and you have unlocked every scripted scene Lewis has to offer. After that, regular gifts and conversations keep the relationship topped up, but no new content fires beyond this point.
