The main valley is not the only land in Stardew Valley. Once you push the late game far enough, a tropical island opens up with its own economy, currency, hidden quests, and even a second farm. Here is how to reach Ginger Island, what each section holds, and how to wring every Golden Walnut out of the place.
Ginger Island is a tropical region split into four zones (South, East, North, and West), each with its own activities, NPCs, and collectibles. It runs on a parallel mini-economy: Golden Walnuts unlock content, Qi Gems buy rarer items, and the local Island Trader only deals in barter. Most of the late-game progression and a fair chunk of the harder achievements live here.

Travel is handled by Willy, who keeps a hidden boat parked behind his Fish Shop. To pay for the repairs that get the boat back in service, you need to complete every Community Center bundle first. Yes, every one. That milestone also rewards the Local Legend achievement, so the grind pulls double duty.
After the boat is fixed, you can sail any time the Fish Shop is open. Willy's standard hours are 9 AM to 5 PM, closed Saturdays unless it is raining. Each ride costs 1,000g, which feels steep until you start farming Walnuts on the other side.

Compared to Pelican Town, the island is small. It is also packed shoulder to shoulder with side content, so plan to make several trips rather than treating it as a one-day visit.
The dock drops you here. You get a small beach, a Warp Totem spawn point, and the wreckage of an Island Farmhouse waiting to be rebuilt.
Walk east from the dock. You will find a small hut with a kid named Leo and his talking parrot, who acts as the island's Walnut tracker. Chat with the bird whenever you want a hint about how many Walnuts are left to find.
Further east, a hidden path leads to a stone shrine surrounded by pedestals. The shrine spits out a cryptic riddle:
When dark clouds cry, begin your quest. To seek the fabled gem-birds four. Each day, one north, south, east, or west. Arrange their gifts upon my door.
Translation: on rainy days, four Gem Birds spawn at fixed spots and drop colored gems when you approach. Their spawn points:
Collect a gem from each bird, place them on the matching pedestals, and the shrine pays out 5 Golden Walnuts.
This is the densest area on the island, with the trader, a dungeon, and most of the late-game content.
The trader appears in version 1.5 of the game. Pay a parrot 10 Golden Walnuts to wake up the blue-bird seller, who accepts items rather than gold. Inventory rotates, and some items only appear on certain days. The full list of trades:
A collapsed bridge sits to the left. Spend 10 Golden Walnuts to fix it and you gain access to an excavation site stocked with rocks, bone nodes, clay nodes, and mahogany seeds.
Right of the dig site is the Mushroom Cave, sealed by a boulder. Bombs do the job here, not Walnuts. Toss one against the rock to free Professor Snail and unlock the Island Field Office along with the cave itself.
At the far north sits the Volcano Dungeon, ten floors deep. The first eight are randomly generated. Floor ten holds the Forge, where you can upgrade weapons and tools using Cinder Shards. Bring a watering can, since some lava tiles can only be cooled with water.
The west side starts with a sleeping turtle blocking the way. Pay a parrot 10 Golden Walnuts to roll it off the path.
This zone is the unofficial best place to relocate part of your operation. Crows do not spawn here, so scarecrows are unnecessary. Pay 20 Golden Walnuts to repair the farmhouse, then another 20 to build the Farm Obelisk, which lets you teleport directly between Pelican Town and the island without paying Willy each time.
A Gourmand Frog lives nearby. Talk to it to start a small side quest: plant Melon, Wheat, and Garlic at the Island farm, but do not harvest them. Speak to the frog again once they are mature for 5 Golden Walnuts.
North of the pond, a Tiger Slime grove guards a colored crystal cave. Interact with the central lion statue to start a Simon Says style memory puzzle. Clearing it gives 3 Golden Walnuts.
Birdie's shack sits on the beach. She offers the quest "The Pirate's Wife", a long chain of trades:
Finish the chain and Birdie hands over the Fairy Dust recipe and 5 Golden Walnuts. She sticks around afterward but stops giving quests.
The western beach hides several extras:
The strangest building on the west side belongs to Qi. Entry costs 100 Golden Walnuts. Inside, a board tracks completion stats, and you can spend a separate currency called Qi Gems on rare recipes, furniture, and vanity items. Qi Gems come from Special Orders given by Mr. Qi himself.
Ginger Island rewards patience more than rushing. Walnuts come in single digits per visit, the Volcano Dungeon takes practice, and most of the trader's catalog requires materials you only get on the island in the first place. Treat it as a long term side region, not a sprint, and the second farm, Forge, and Obelisk will pay back the effort many times over.
