Abigail in Stardew Valley: Gifts She Loves, Hates, and How to Trigger Every Heart Event

Abigail is one of the marriage candidates in Stardew Valley, but getting her attention takes more than showing up at her doorstep with whatever happened to be in your inventory. The wrong gift can quietly torpedo weeks of progress. This guide covers exactly what to hand her, what to leave in the chest, and how to unlock every heart event from two to ten.

Who Is Abigail?

Abigail has been in the game since version 1.0. She is into the occult, hangs around the graveyard a lot, and rainstorms tend to find her outside hunting for frogs. Predictably, her parents worry. Her mother has a recurring line: "I wish Abby would dress more appropriately and stop dyeing her hair blue."

For the player, the payoff is real. Once you marry her, she joins farm life and pitches in with daily chores. The route there runs largely through her stomach, with a few scripted scenes scattered across the map.

Gifting Basics

You can give Abigail two gifts per week, plus one bonus gift on her birthday, Fall 13. Each present triggers a reaction tied to how much she likes it:

• Love: "I seriously love this! You're the best, (character name)!"
• Like: "Hey, how'd you know I was hungry? This looks delicious!"
• Neutral: "You brought me a present? Thanks."
• Dislike: "What am I supposed to do with this?"
• Hate: "What were you thinking? This is awful!"

If you hear that last one, congratulations: you have just erased several days of friendship grinding.

Heart Events

The friendship meter runs from 0 to 10 hearts before marriage and extends up to 14 hearts after. Specific cutscenes unlock at the 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 heart thresholds, and several of them let dialogue picks nudge her friendship up or down. Below is each scene, the conditions to trigger it, and the choices that matter.

Two Hearts

Walk into Pierre's General Store on any day except Saturday. A scene plays where Abigail is venting about a video game and asks for your help. Whatever you pick here, your friendship total stays the same. Free conversation.

Four Hearts

Head to the Mountain area between 12 PM and 7 PM on a rainy day in any season except winter. You will find Abigail playing her flute. She asks what brought you out there:

• No effect: "Just doing some work."
• +50 friendship: "Enjoying the weather."
• +10 friendship: "I could ask you the same question."

Six Hearts

Enter Pelican Town from any direction between 9 PM and 12 AM on a day that is not raining. Abigail asks whether you have ever used a sword:

• -100 friendship: "Yes, but it's dangerous. You should stay safe."
• +10 friendship: "Yes, and it's exciting!" or "Yes, but only in self-defense."
• No effect: "No."

Eight Hearts

Wait until Abigail mails you a letter saying she is at Pierre's General Store. Show up between 8 PM and 10 PM, let the scene play out, and expect her to visit your farm the following day.

Ten Hearts

Hand Abigail a Bouquet to upgrade the relationship past friendship, then visit the Mines or Quarry Mine between 5 PM and 12 AM. You will find her shaken. Your first response shifts her friendship:

• +20 friendship: "What happened?"
• +40 friendship: "Are you okay?"

A second set of choices follows:

• -50 friendship: "You're crying like a little baby. Stop."
• +20 friendship: "You're safe with me."
• +40 friendship: "I get scared too."

Heads up: the ten-heart cutscene will not trigger if you have already handed Abigail the Mermaid's Pendant. Save the proposal until after this event.
