5 Spooky Multiplayer Games to Play With Friends

General·October 30, 2022·7 min read

Halloween is a good excuse to gather friends, turn the lights down, and see who panics first. These five games are not all traditional horror, but each one can make a group night properly spooky.

V Rising

V Rising puts your group in control of vampires awakening to reclaim the world. Players gather resources, build castles, fight humans, and battle rival vampires who want the throne for themselves.

That can include your so-called friends, so choose allies carefully.

Project Zomboid

Project Zomboid is blunt: this is how you die. Your group can survive for days, weeks, or longer, but the zombie apocalypse always has patience.

Barricade a house, raid supplies, manage injuries, and see how long everyone lasts before one bad decision ruins the safehouse.

7 Days to Die

7 Days to Die drops players into a ruined world packed with undead threats. Your group can scavenge, craft, fortify bases, and prepare for increasingly dangerous attacks.

The base game has plenty of pressure, and mods can make survival even harsher if your friends ask for trouble.

Left 4 Dead 2

Left 4 Dead 2 keeps things simple: move, survive, and do not get separated. Its co-op campaigns send four survivors through infected-heavy routes, while versus modes let players control special infected.

That means your friends can save you from a jump scare or become the jump scare.

Minecraft

Vanilla Minecraft has creepers, zombies, and unsettling cave sounds, but it is not usually scary. With the right mods, that changes fast.

Scary Minecraft mods can add creatures in mines, figures near the tree line, and threats that make familiar worlds feel unsafe again.

Group Frights Worth Trying

These games each offer a different kind of spooky multiplayer night, from vampire politics and zombie survival to modded Minecraft horror. The best scares usually happen right after someone says everything is under control.
