Getting the Rope Gun in Sons of the Forest opens up zipline travel and gives players a much faster way to cross the Island's wider gaps. Reaching it takes some preparation, since the weapon is tucked deep inside a cave that does not exactly roll out the welcome mat for new survivors.
This walkthrough covers where the Rope Gun is hidden, how to navigate the cave that holds it, and what you need to craft the ammo once the weapon is in your hands.

Head to the western side of the Island. The cave entrance sits near the leftmost stream that feeds out of the lake connecting four similar bodies of water. If your in-game map points you somewhere else, double-check before committing to the hike.
Before stepping inside, build a tent outside the cave and save the game. The Rope Gun cave sits far enough from most base locations that retracing the route after a death gets old fast.

Once you are ready, head in. The Rope Gun is at the far end of a fairly large cave system, so expect a fight or two before you reach it.
Push forward from the entrance until an enemy blocks the path. Take it out and keep moving in a straight line. The corridor opens into an intersection after a few skirmishes with mutants and other unpleasant residents.
Continue along the left route. You will hit another fork after a stretch. Here the left path is also a dead end, although it contains a handful of materials worth grabbing if you are running low on supplies.
Take the right path at this second fork. The corridor leads straight to the Rope Gun. Once you pick it up, fire a zipline back toward the cave's exit instead of walking every step back through the corridors.

The Rope Gun does not accept regular Rope as ammo. Instead, you craft Zipline Rope from two components:
You can find Rope at:
To print one, feed a 3D Printer 100 ml of Printer Resin. The most convenient option for most players is the 3D Printer inside Maintenance A Bunker on the western side of the Island, which is in the same region as the Rope Gun cave.
With enough Zipline Rope in your inventory, the rest is short work. Equip the Rope Gun, aim at the destination, and fire. A successful shot anchors a line that you can ride by interacting with it using the E key. The first attempt is usually graceful. The second one tends to involve a ravine.
If you would rather explore the Island with friends on a stable connection, Sons of the Forest also runs on our dedicated servers.
