Sons of the Forest Keycards: All Three Locations and How to Unlock Them

Sons of the Forest ships with three keycards, and each one gates a different chunk of the underground world. Track them down in order and you will unlock new bunkers, better weapons, and a few items that make the rest of the island much easier to survive.

This guide walks through each card in the sequence the game expects: Maintenance A, then VIP, then Guest. Skipping ahead is technically possible, but every later card depends on items you grab earlier, so the order matters.

Maintenance A Keycard

You need: a Shovel.

Head to the green circle marker tucked against the northwest edge of the island, right next to the snowy mountain. The landmark to look for is a pair of golf carts loaded with surveying gear. Somewhere around them sits a fresh patch of dirt. Plant your shovel into it and a bunker hatch will surface.

Before dropping in, top up your stamina and ammo. The lower level introduces you to baby mutants, who are exactly as charming as they sound and tend to swarm from the back of the room.

Once the welcoming party is handled, follow the corridor into a frosted-over storage room. Pick up the Firefighter Axe here. It is one of the best melee weapons in the game and you will want it for what comes later.

Doubling back to the room with the computer banks, you will find the Maintenance A Keycard sitting on a desk along with a Laser Sight attachment.

Tip: drop a GPS Locator before leaving. This bunker also houses a 3D Printer, and you will be coming back more than once.

VIP Keycard

You need: Maintenance A Keycard and a Rebreather.

From the first bunker, push further northwest until you find the next green marker, right at the tip of the island. You are in the correct spot when two golf carts appear parked outside a cave mouth.

The cave snakes through dark tunnels and ends at a trap door set into the floor. Drop in and you will land inside a much larger bunker, this one stocked with food crates and an unsettling amount of corpses to rifle through.

Work your way to the kitchen and use the Maintenance A Keycard on the locked door at the back. Past it, you will reach a pair of hydroponics rooms. The second one is worth a detour because the Crossbow is laying next to a body in there.

Keep going through the bunker until you hit a hydroponics room that has flooded with water. Take the corridor on the other side and turn left at the door. That puts you in the control room, which is where the VIP Keycard is waiting.

From the control room you will spot NPCs diving into the water to leave the bunker. Strap on the Rebreather and follow them out the same way.

Tip: there is a locked door near the control room that opens with the VIP card. Inside is a dress for Virginia, in case that is your thing.

Guest Keycard

You need: VIP Keycard and serious firepower. Shotgun and Katana are the safe picks.

The Guest card is the toughest of the three. The route runs through cannibal territory and the bunker itself is loaded with mutants, so do not show up with a sharpened stick and good vibes.

The entry point is the green marker on the western coast, wedged between the ocean and the snowy mountain. An abandoned golf cart marks the spot. Nearby you will find another cave, with a short path that leads directly into the bunker.

Follow the corridor until you hit a locked door and use the Maintenance A Keycard to open it. Behind that door is an empty gym. Turn left to enter the spa area and loot any food and clothing you pass.

Keep moving and you will exit into a small dining area, then up a flight of stairs to another locked door. You cannot open this one yet, so push past it toward the bar. Grab the Guitar on the way through and head into the back room.

Keep going until you reach a room full of corpses arranged around a central glass table. Examine the table to pick up the Guest Keycard.

Now backtrack. Return to that locked door near the main hall, open it with your new card, and collect the letter, the Shotgun Rail, and the extra resources stashed inside. Then head back to the spa and use the Guest card on the second locked door there. You will drop into a darker section with a staircase on the right.

Up the stairs, follow the hallway to a hidden home theatre. The Chainsaw is in this room, propped next to another slumped corpse.
