GPS locators are one of the easier quality of life tools in Sons of the Forest, letting you pin important spots on your map and stop wandering in circles. Pressing M opens the map, but the actual beacons need to be collected first, and the game is not exactly going to hand them over.
There are three locators scattered across the island, each tied to a small side objective. Below is where they hide and what you need to grab them.

Each locator unlocks after completing a specific objective, usually marked with a purple icon on the map. The three quests are commonly known as:
Each pickup also drops a bonus weapon or tool, so the trip is rarely wasted.

Head west of the snowy mountain region and follow the purple map marker. You will spot a body dangling from a cliff face. Cutting it down rewards you with the first GPS locator plus a flashlight.
Two ways to do this:
The second method is faster, the first is more cinematic. Pick your style.

Travel to the western coastline and locate the small orange raft sitting near the shore. Push it into the water and climb aboard. Inside the raft you will find a corpse holding the second GPS locator and a pistol.
Heads up: sharks patrol this area. Not always, but often enough to ruin your day.
If they show up, the pistol you just looted handles them, but bullets are not cheap in this game. A sturdy melee weapon or a quick escape works too. Some players report no shark spawns at all on this route, so your luck may vary.

Head to the northwest corner of the map and find the lonely grave in an open field. You will need a shovel before you arrive, no shortcuts. Dig the grave, open the coffin, and claim the third GPS locator along with a shotgun.
Once you have any locator, you can deploy it anywhere as a custom map pin. Mark caves, water sources, NPC sightings, your base, or that one spot you keep forgetting how to reach.
To set one up:
The marker now appears on your map. When you walk near an active locator, it beeps faster as you close in, which doubles as a homing beacon if you get lost inside your own base layout.
That covers all three locators, the requirements, and what they unlock. Plan your route, grab the bonus weapons on the way, and you will navigate the island far more efficiently. If you plan to survive alongside friends, HolyHosting offers Sons of the Forest server options to keep your run online around the clock, no GPS locator required.
