Nectar sits at the top of every Smalland player's gathering list. The resource feeds into cooked dishes that block nourishment loss, so running low on it usually means running low on stamina at the worst possible moment.
This guide covers the tool you need, the two main farming zones, and the full list of recipes that turn Nectar into something edible (or pet-friendly).

Good news for early-game players: Nectar does not demand a high-tier toolkit. A basic Wood Hatchet chops the right plants just fine, so there is no need to grind for upgraded axes before your first harvest run.
The plant you are looking for is the Poppy. Hack it down and it drops Nectar along with Petals as a bonus.

The reliable Poppy fields sit on the western side of the map. To reach them, look for the fallen tree trunk that crosses the river between the central and western islands. It works as a makeshift bridge.
Once across, head toward the NPC named Skadi. The patch of ground northeast of her position is packed with Poppies. The catch: bees and other small insects patrol the same area, and they will not appreciate the harvest.
Two practical ways to handle the threat:
The southern island also hosts Nectar-bearing plants, but these are tougher. The Wood Hatchet will not cut it. You will need at least a Flint Axe to harvest from this zone. If your axe game is still basic, sticking to the western fields is the easier call.

Nectar is mostly a cooking ingredient, but it also goes into the Ladybug Travel Kit, the item used for taming. Below is every recipe that lists Nectar as an ingredient, what it does, and where you craft it.
Wood Hatchet, head west, chop Poppies, dodge bees. Five recipes across two crafting stations, and you are set on nourishment for a long stretch of gameplay. Stack Nectar early and the rest of your survival loop becomes a lot less stressful.
