Smalland Giant's Fall Update: Pyrite Tier, Hornet Mounts, and Fresh NPCs

Other Games·May 15, 2023·12 min read

Merge Games keeps chipping away at Smalland's early access roadmap, and the Giant's Fall update is the latest drop. It brings a new top-tier resource, a flying mount, two NPCs you can actually talk to, and a long list of fixes that veterans have been waiting on.

A New Metal Tier Arrives in the Smallfolk World

The star of Giant's Fall is Pyrite, a resource that sits above the existing crafting tiers. You will need the new Metal Hatchet to mine it, so plan a quick farming trip before chasing the shiny stuff. Once you have a stockpile, Pyrite unlocks a fresh recipe list: the Pyrite Greatsword for heavy hitters, a matching Pyrite armor set, and over thirty new metal building parts for anyone who treats base-building as the real endgame.

Cosmetic options also expanded. Decorative vines and a new flower let you soften the look of all that cold metal, while character creation gained an extra body type for new survivors.

Mounts, Spiders, and a Catapult You Did Not Ask For

Getting around the map is faster now thanks to the Hornet mount. Tame one and you can both travel quickly and use its built-in attack animations against hostile creatures. Handy when something twice your size decides you look snackable.

Speaking of snackable, colony spiders have moved into silk-farming zones. Expect skirmishes if you are restocking thread, or skip the fight entirely and use the new catapult system to launch supplies across the map. Track down Nok to unlock the blueprint.

Two new NPCs round out the social side: the Historian and the Merchant. Both are worth visiting once you start poking around the updated map.

If Smalland Refuses to Launch After the Update

Big patches and stubborn launchers are old friends. If Giant's Fall left you stuck on a black screen or crashing at the menu, work through the checklist below before filing a ticket.

  • Confirm your system meets the minimum requirements
  • Run the game as Administrator
  • Update your graphics drivers
  • Temporarily disable antivirus and firewall software
  • Restart the machine
  • Reinstall Smalland as a last resort

If none of that helps, reach out to the official support channels with your DxDiag and any crash logs you have. The faster they see what your rig is doing, the faster you get back to fighting bugs that fight back.
