Smalland: Forbidden Monuments Content Update Detailed (Release Date and Features)

Other Games·July 5, 2023·7 min read

The Smallfolk are about to get a lot more territory to argue over. Merge Games is rolling out the second major content patch for Smalland, titled Forbidden Monuments, and it brings a new map zone, a fresh boss fight, sneaky new mobs, and a proper progression rework. Below is the breakdown for Vanguards who want to know exactly what is dropping and when.

When Forbidden Monuments Arrives

Merge Games confirmed via a Steam announcement that Forbidden Monuments goes live on July 20th. It is the follow-up to the Giant's Fall update and stands as the second large content pass since release.

What the Patch Adds

The update is built around four pillars: a new biome, a new boss family, new enemies with new loot, and a reworked progression layer. Here is what each one looks like.

A New Region to Explore

The headline feature is a brand new map zone. Expect oversized structures looming above the grass, with some pieces clearly modeled after old playground gear like slides and swings. Being ant-sized in a long-abandoned human play area sets the visual tone perfectly: equal parts whimsical and ominous.

Meet the Blue Tit

The star villains of the patch are a group of boss-tier flying enemies known collectively as Blue Tit. Details are still light, but Merge Games has already warned players to bring their best gear and coordinate with squadmates. Translation: do not try soloing this bird in starter armor.

Tip: Brush up with the Smalland Beginner's Guide before launch day. You will want your build dialed in before stepping into a giant aviary fight.

Stinkbugs and Stink Grenades

A new enemy is joining the bestiary: the Stinkbug. Taking one down unlocks the crafting recipe for a Stink Grenade, a throwable that stuns and poisons whatever it lands near. It should be a useful crowd-control option against tougher targets, especially when paired with a teammate doing the actual damage.

Progression System Overhaul

Finally, Forbidden Monuments introduces a reworked progression system that covers both your character and your tamed creatures. The goal is to give players reasons to keep playing past the boss-clear checklist, layering extra growth into the late game rather than rolling credits once you have hit the existing endgame.
