Set Up and Use the Rust Plus Companion App

Rust Plus Companion App Overview

The Rust Plus companion app gives Rust players a way to keep tabs on a server from a mobile device. After pairing it with a server, you can check the map, read team chat, view server details, follow news, and manage supported in-game electronics. It is not quite the same as being online with a rock and a dream, but it is much better than guessing what is happening while away.

This guide explains how to install Rust Plus, connect it to a server, and use the main app sections.

Install Rust Plus

  1. Open the Rust Plus Companion app page on your mobile device or browser.
  2. Choose the correct app store button for your phone or tablet.
  1. Install the app, then open it once the download finishes.
  2. Sign in with the Steam account you use for Rust when prompted.

After signing in, the app opens to its main hub. A newly installed app will not show any linked servers yet, so the next step is pairing it with the server you play on.

Pair Rust Plus With a Server

  1. Launch Rust on your computer.
  2. Join the server you want to connect to the mobile app.
  3. Once loaded in, open the pause menu.
  4. Select RUST+ from the menu.
  5. Choose Pair with Server.
  1. Check your mobile device for a Rust Plus notification.
  2. Open the notification, then tap Pair Server.

Once pairing is complete, your game client and phone are connected for that server. The available app tools will depend on your team status, the server, and any paired in-game devices.

Main Rust Plus App Features

After a server is linked, the bottom navigation in Rust Plus gives you access to several useful sections.

Server Information

The information tab shows important server details in one place. This can include the current player count, wipe details, world size, and other server data. You can also scroll down to see a small news preview when available.

Map

The map tab displays the server map from your phone. It can show shops and other points of interest, which saves you from constantly opening the in-game map. If you are in a team, teammate locations can also appear here, making group movement easier to track.

Team Chat

The team chat section lets you message teammates from either Rust or the mobile app. Use it to coordinate travel, warn about nearby players, or check in while away from the computer. Messages are limited to your team, so players outside the team cannot read them through this chat.

In-Game Devices

Rust Plus can also control compatible devices connected through smart switches. To set this up in-game, equip a wire tool, hold E on a smart switch, and choose the pairing option.

After the smart switch is paired, it can be controlled from the app. This is useful for remote doors, lights, alarms, traps, or other electrical setups, assuming the wiring is not held together by pure optimism.

News

The news tab shows updates, community information, and other Rust-related announcements. It is a quick way to keep track of new content, upcoming changes, and events without searching elsewhere.

Notification Options

Rust Plus also supports notifications for different in-game events. Depending on your setup, you can receive alerts for teammate activity, player deaths, triggered alarms, and other server events. These notifications are especially useful if you have electrical defenses or sensors around your base.

Final Notes

Once Rust Plus is installed and paired, it becomes a practical second screen for Rust. The app helps with navigation, communication, server awareness, and remote device control, all without needing to stay logged in at your computer the entire time.
