Every RuneScape: Dragonwilds Quest: Walkthroughs, Starting Points, and Loot

Ashenfall is a generous land. It hands out monsters, materials, and mysteries in roughly equal portions, but the structured stuff lives inside its quests. This guide collects every quest currently in RuneScape: Dragonwilds, what kicks each one off, the rewards on the other end, and the steps in between.

How Quests Work in Dragonwilds

If you have touched any RPG in the last twenty years, the format will feel familiar. Talk to an NPC, statue, or curious object, get a list of objectives, and tick them off until something dies or rewards appear. The game tracks every step on the side of the screen, so you do not need to memorize anything.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds splits its quest log into two flavors. Primary Quests drive the main story, drag you across regions, and unlock progression. Secondary Quests are optional sidetracks, mostly designed to top up your XP and hand over niche gear or recipes. Both pay out something useful at the end.

Primary Quests

These follow the main narrative, so finishing one unlocks the next.

First Steps

The game auto-starts this one the moment you load in.

  • Reward: Tome of Runecrafting
  • Walkthrough: Speak to the Wise Old Man inside the Temple, then Doric just outside. Push through the tutorial called Getting Started. After that, find the Wise Old Man again, this time in Bramblemead Village.

Getting Started

Doric offers this tutorial outside the Temple and lets you skip it if you already know which end of a club to swing.

  • Reward: Vegetable Soup
  • Walkthrough: Grab dirty water from a nearby pond and bring it back. Then build a crafting table, craft a stone club, and return to Doric.

Ratcatcher

Unlocks after First Steps wraps up.

  • Rewards: Stone Logging Axe, Stone Dagger
  • Walkthrough: Find Vannaka near the Windmill. Kill four rats, cook two rat roasts from their meat, and pretend you enjoy them.

Rune Mysteries

Triggers once Ratcatcher is done.

  • Rewards: Stone Pickaxe, 10x Astral Rune, 10x Air Rune, Tome of Woodcutting
  • Walkthrough: Speak with Zanik by the river down the road from the Temple. Bring her 50 Ash Logs. Mine Rune Essence, set up a Rune Altar, and craft Air and Astral Runes. Head back to Zanik.

Dragon Slayer

Unlocked by completing Rune Mysteries.

  • Rewards: Tome of the Dragon Slayer, Anti-Dragon Shield, Dragon Visage, Masterwork Recipe: Dragonblight Shield
  • Walkthrough:
  1. Build a base in Bramblemead Village with a shelter and a claimed bed.
  2. Speak to the Wise Old Man in Bramblemead.
  3. Hunt a deer and bring an antler back to him.
  4. Storm the goblin castle and look for Cathan.
  5. Inspect the blue-flame door in the swamp to figure out Cathan's plan.
  6. Talk to Spitfoot in the lever room inside the Dragonkin Vault.
  7. Return to the Wise Old Man in Bramblemead.
  8. Gear up and head into Ghornfell after Cathan.
  9. Investigate Velgar's Tower.
  10. Speak to Cathan's ghost outside the tower.
  11. Craft the Challenge Horn from Bloodwood Sap (Bloodwood Tree, needs an Iron Axe) and a Dragon's Tooth (Dragon's Skull, needs an Iron Pickaxe).
  12. Summon and defeat Velgar.
  13. Carry Velgar's head back to the Wise Old Man.

Withering Heights

Becomes available after Dragon Slayer.

  • Rewards: Masterwork Recipe: Dragoncurse Shield, Tome of the Undying, Dragoncurse Shield, Undead Draconic Visage
  • Walkthrough:
  1. Meet the Wise Old Man near Ashien's Watch.
  2. Open the Strange Door.
  3. Speak with the Temple's inhabitant.
  4. Talk to Postie Pete.
  5. Enter Fellhollow.
  6. Cleanse a Soul Rift at a Purification Pool.
  7. Track down Cathan and continue his investigation.
  8. Find the locations of the curse fragments.
  9. Collect three curse fragments from the spots marked on the standing stones (Emberwood Village, Vekchenven Kara, Silverthorn Keep).
  10. Enter the Shattered Spire and defeat Imaru.
  11. Bring Imaru's head to Death.

Secondary Quests

Optional, but the loot is worth the detour. Pick these up when you bump into the right NPC or curious landmark.

Dog Days

  • Starts: Find Vannaka in a small camp under a rock overhang.
  • Reward: Garou Highborn's Cloak
  • Walkthrough: Search Garou camps beneath the giant wyrm bones in the Highlands for ritual lore. Read the Ritual of Purification lore scrap in the western Garou camp. Challenge a Garou King in their Highland stronghold and claim the token. Perform the Ritual of Purification at the ancient shrine "where a heart once beat" (Lougrim's Shrine at Wyrm's Heart) using three Shocking Plant Bulbs and two Ram Horns. Return the Purified King's Token to Vannaka in the Ghornfell Highlands.

Seeking Salvation

  • Starts: Speak with Doric in his camp in front of Skekven Kara.
  • Reward: Salve Crystal
  • Walkthrough: Get inside the vault and uncover what is hidden there. Activate four Dragonkin Statues scattered around Skekven Kara. Head through the high passage on the vault wall, interact with the statue to access Lacrussa's Writings, then bring the writings back to Doric.

Doric's Quest

  • Starts: Finish Seeking Salvation.
  • Rewards: 8x Dragonwolf Hide, 9x Hard Leather, 11x Coal, 11x Willow Logs, 12x Iron Bar, 12x Dragon Blood, Zombie Axe, Recipe: Zombie Axe
  • Walkthrough: Bring Doric in Fellhollow three crafted weapons.
  • Undead Ranger's Bow: recipe found through a Dragonkin Effigy in Skekven Kara.
  • Necromancer's Staff: recipe through a Dragonkin Effigy in Vekchenven Kara.
  • Shadow Sword: recipe dropped from a slain Zogre.

Restless Ghosts

  • Starts: Interact with the well inside the Ruined Village.
  • Rewards: Tome of Mining, Tome of Cooking, Tome of Woodcutting, Tome of the Artisan
  • Walkthrough: Figure out a purpose for the Amulet of Ghostspeak. Then track down the restless spirits (Warren's, Lazina's, Finn's, and Kay's) and help them rest. They only appear at night. After speaking with all four, visit the remembrance shrine in the graveyard next to the starting Temple and pay your respects.

Even More Restless Ghosts

  • Starts: Speak with Zanik after picking up the Amulet of Ghostspeak.
  • Reward: Recipe: Dorgeshuun Crossbow
  • Walkthrough: Find three ghosts and finish their unresolved business. Build a house around the Windswept Ghost, give a Clay Decoration to the Reminiscing Ghost, and return the Sketchbook to the Paint-Spattered Ghost. Report back to Zanik.

Goblin Diplomacy

  • Starts: Pick up the Bandosian Amulet from a chest in the lower level of the ruined castle in the southeast of Bramblemead Valley.
  • Reward: Goblin War Banner Cape
  • Walkthrough: Find someone who can identify the Bandosian Amulet. Investigate the ruin northeast of Zanik and interact with the reliquary in the small room behind some barrels. Search for the other amulet piece in an area full of mud and stagnant swampwater. Inside the cave in the Whispering Swamp, defeat a Goblin Shaman near a chest. Bring both amulets to Zanik.

Granite Mauled

  • Starts: Speak with Doric next to some ruins on top of a plateau in the eastern Fractured Plains.
  • Rewards: Imbued Granite Maul Head, Masterwork Recipe: Granite Maul, Recipe: Imbued Granite Maul Head, Recipe: Imbued Leather Wrappings, Recipe: Ornate Maul Handle
  • Walkthrough: Investigate the secrets beneath Ashien's Watch. Activate four Dragonkin Statues around the area to open the vault. Clear the vault, defeat the bosses inside, and interact with the statue at the end for a blueprint. Hand the blueprint to Doric back at Ashien's Watch.

Growing Pains

  • Starts: Level up your Farming skill.
  • Rewards: 3x Plant Cure, Tome of Farming - Volume 2
  • Walkthrough: Talk to the Wise Old Man in Bramblemead about the Farming skill. Plant, grow, and harvest your first crop from a farming plot, then return to him.

Heartstrings

  • Starts: Interact with the memorial stone beneath the Anima-Infused Tree at the top of the tallest mountain in the Fractured Planes.
  • Rewards: Crystal Bow, Masterwork Recipe: Crystal Bow
  • Walkthrough: Follow the memorial path east through Ghornfell, watching for the blue trees. Interact with the memorial stones at the base of six different Anima-Infused trees.

Highlighting the Problem

  • Starts: Interact with the wizard statue in the Runecrafting Guild courtyard in Bramblemead Valley.
  • Reward: Masterwork Recipe: Staff of Light
  • Walkthrough: Search the area for clues about the statue. Head to the hidden zone inside the Dragonkin Vault with the broken bridge (Windstep is required to reach the ledge). Find the password "Pthentorok" tucked inside a glowing blue statue, then return to the courtyard statue. Take the Mysterious Orb it gives you and interact with three pedestals around the guild's main tower. Return one final time with the charged orb.

The Wild Hunt

  • Starts: Speak with Vannaka in his camp.
  • Reward: Access to a Terrorbird Mount
  • Walkthrough: Hunt Nature Spirits around Fellhollow's willow groves. Bring three Nature Spirit hearts to Vannaka.

Things that go Boom in the Night

  • Starts: Speak with Vannaka after finishing The Wild Hunt.
  • Reward: Spectral Chinchompa Cape
  • Walkthrough: Gather 10 spectral chinchompa skulls and deliver them to Vannaka.

Warding Off Danger

  • Starts: Craft any piece of magic armor.
  • Reward: 2x Small Wardstones
  • Walkthrough: Talk to the Wise Old Man and learn about Lifewards. Craft a Wardstone at a Rune Altar and bring it back to him.
