Risk of Rain 2: How to Add the False Son to Your Survivor Lineup

The Seekers of the Storm Dev Diaries spotlighted only two new survivors, Seeker and Chef. The expansion quietly hides a third one: the False Son, a boss you can convert into a playable character. Beating him during a normal run will not cut it. There is one specific condition that flips the switch.

The Unlock Requirement

First, install the Seekers of the Storm DLC. Then, fight the False Son boss while carrying a Halcyon Seed in your inventory. Win that encounter with the seed in hand and the False Son will be waiting in your survivor selection menu on your next run.

The Halcyon Seed is the only piece that trips players up. Without it sitting in your inventory at the moment of the kill, the boss fight counts for nothing toward this unlock.

The False Son as a Playable Survivor

Once unlocked, the False Son plays like a heavy bruiser. Slow swings, big numbers, and a chunky health bar. He shines in melee range but punishes sloppy positioning, so save your dashes.

Base Stats

• Health: 180 (+54 per level)
• Health Regen: 0.6 to 1.5 per second, scaling with difficulty
• Damage: 13 (+2 per level)
• Speed: 7 m/s
• Armor: 70 on Drizzle, 0 on every other difficulty

Skill Set

• Lunar Tampering (passive): Each unused Lunar Spike grants +5% attack speed and +2.5 armor. Spent spikes convert into +5% movement speed and +2.5 health regen.
• Club of the Forsaken (primary): Hold the primary button to swing his club at nearby enemies for 300% damage. Hold primary and secondary together to charge a slam worth 1500%.
• Lunar Spikes, Lunar Ruin variant: Throw a Lunar Spike for 150% damage. Growth boosts your spike count.
• Step of the Brothers (utility): Dash a short distance and detonate for 200% damage on every enemy caught. Two charges.
• Laser of the Father (special): Charge for up to 1.5 seconds, then fire a rapid laser dealing 30 to 175% damage across 4 seconds while refilling your Lunar Spikes. Growth extends the duration.
• Laser Burst: Pierce everything in a line for 1000% damage and recover 30% of your Lunar Spike stock. Growth raises maximum stock.

Stack tempo items and survivability around him, and the False Son becomes one of the strongest melee picks on the roster.
