Myth of Empires Starter Guide: Spawns, Skills, Horses, and Bases

Other Games·March 18, 2024·14 min read

Myth of Empires mixes survival crafting, character progression, mounted travel, and large-scale warfare inside a historical sandbox. It gives players plenty of freedom, which is useful right up until the game asks where you want to spawn and you have no idea which direction leads to safety. This beginner guide focuses on the systems that matter early: spawn points, leveling, talents, horse taming, equipment proficiency, and base placement.

What New Players Should Learn First

This guide does not repeat every survival crafting basic. Instead, it covers the parts of Myth of Empires that can shape your early progress and save you from losing time, resources, or a promising horse.

Choosing Your First Spawn Point

New characters must pick a starting location before entering the world. The available spawn points are:

  • Alluvial Plains 1
  • Alluvial Plains 2
  • Alluvial Plains 3
  • Forest
  • Northern Mountains 1
  • Northern Mountains 2

There is also a Neutral Camp spawn point, but it usually offers fewer early advantages than the main locations.

For a smoother start, Forest, Northern Mountains 2, and Alluvial Plains 1, 2, and 3 are safer picks. These areas contain low-level mobs, making them better for players who are new to Myth of Empires or survival crafting games in general. You can defeat enemies more reliably and collect early EXP without being immediately humbled by the countryside.

Northern Mountains 1 is better for players who want more danger from the start. The enemies there are higher level and much harder with beginner gear, but they can reward more EXP if you can handle the fight.

Leveling Without Taking Huge Risks

Leveling rewards you with useful perks such as Copper Coins, cooked food, and resources. The main questline is one of the best early sources of experience, so following it helps new players unlock systems at a steady pace.

You can also gain EXP through regular actions. A safe early method is to spawn in the Forest, gather Grass from nearby bushes, and craft Straw Rope from it. The rewards are not dramatic, but the method is low risk and keeps progress moving.

Note: On a PVP Myth of Empires server, resource-gathering points provide double items.

Understanding Talents and Skills

All new characters begin from a similar place, but talents and skills quickly define how each player develops. The Talent & Skill window contains dozens of options across these categories:

  • Strength: One-Handed, Shield, Two-handed, Polearm, and Heavy Armor
  • Agility: Throwing, Bow, Crossbow, Riding, and Light Armor
  • Physique: Physique, Mining, Woodcutting, Hunt, and Plant
  • Wisdom: Craft, Siege, Building, Armourer, and Medicine
  • Charisma: Command, Drills, Recruit, Tame, and Renown

Myth of Empires awards talent and skill progress based on what you do. Taming animals improves Tame. Cutting trees supports Woodcutting. The more abilities you unlock in a sub-category, the more efficiently you gain points there.

Skills also have level caps. To raise a capped skill further, visit a Skill Trainer NPC and buy the next unlock. If you regret a build choice, Copper Coins can be spent to reallocate used skill points.

Taming Your First Horse

Walking works, but Myth of Empires is much easier to explore once you have a mount. To tame a horse, prepare the required items and follow the process carefully:

  • Craft a Coarse Rein with 8x Branch, 3x Coarse Hide, and 1x Straw Rope
  • Craft a Coarse Light Saddle with 2x Straw Rope, 6x Coarse Hide, and 4x Bark
  • Craft Coarse Dry Fodder with 6x Grass and 1x Bark
  • Throw the Coarse Dry Fodder near a wild horse
  • Equip the Coarse Rein and approach the horse from behind
  • Press the prompted buttons when the horse's Rage meter fills
  • Stay mounted until the horse calms
  • Name the tamed horse

You do not control the horse during taming. It can wander into bandit camps or strong hostile NPCs, because apparently the animal also wants to test your decision-making.

Improving Equipment Proficiency

Equipment proficiency increases as you use a gear class. You do not need to level each individual weapon separately. For example, using any one-handed sword improves one-handed sword proficiency.

Armor works differently. Equip the armor type, such as light or heavy armor, then use stamina to build proficiency. Jumping repeatedly is a simple and safe way to raise armor proficiency.

Note: Update v1.0 added Idle Training to help increase gear proficiency.

Placing Your First Base

Every empire starts with one building block, but the location matters before the first foundation goes down. Consider what is nearby. A base close to horses can support frequent taming and improve the Tame sub-category. A location near bandits can help you practice weapon proficiency if you are prepared for combat.

Once you choose a site, start with the foundation. Many building pieces, especially grounded blocks, need flat terrain. Taking time to find level land makes construction easier and reduces the chance of rebuilding the same wall three times.
