Join a Terraria Server by IP and Port

Getting Connected

Terraria is built for digging, building, boss fights, and the occasional questionable tunnel system. While solo worlds are easy to start, dedicated servers let you play in the same world with friends whenever the server is online.

To join one, you need two pieces of information: the server IP address and its port. Terraria asks for these separately, so copying the full address into one field usually will not work.

Find the Server IP and Port

  1. Open your HolyHosting server panel and log in.
  2. Find the section that shows the server address, usually listed as `IP Address:Port`.
  1. Split the address into two parts:
  • The IP address, which comes before the colon.
  • The 5-digit port, which comes after the colon.

Keep both values nearby. Terraria will ask for the IP first, then the port on the next screen.

Join from Terraria

  1. Launch Terraria.
  2. From the main menu, select Multiplayer.
  3. Choose Join via IP, then select the character you want to use.
  1. When prompted, enter only the IP address. Do not include the 5-digit port here.
  1. On the next prompt, enter the 5-digit port and select Accept.

Terraria should begin connecting to the server. Once it loads, you can play in that world alone or with anyone else who has access.

Common Connection Problems

The server will not connect with the IP

First, confirm the Terraria server is online in your control panel. If it is running, try joining again and make sure the IP address and port are entered separately. Terraria is picky about this, and unfortunately not in a charming way.

A Journey Mode character cannot join

Journey Mode characters can only join Journey Mode worlds. If your server uses a normal world, create a non-Journey character. If you want to use that Journey character, the server world also needs to be Journey Mode.
