Holy Team

Playing Once Human with friends is much easier once everyone understands the difference between servers and worlds. You can be on the same server and still not see each other if you are in different worlds.

If you joined the same server as a friend but cannot find them in-game, the server is probably correct. The missing step is choosing the same world.
To change worlds, find a Teleportation Tower in Nalcott. These structures are used for fast travel and world selection. Walk up to a Teleportation Tower, interact with it, and open the menu showing available worlds. You and your friends need to select the same world from that menu.
Once everyone switches to the same world, you should be able to meet up, group together, and start taking on the map as a team.
Teleportation Towers are not available the moment you create a character, but they unlock very early. Follow the main story quests first instead of wandering too far immediately.
After crafting your first weapon and reaching Deadsville, the main quest will send you to find your first Teleportation Tower. Continue following that questline and you cannot miss it. The process should only take about fifteen minutes.
After the first tower is unlocked, it remains available permanently. Interact with every Teleportation Tower you discover while exploring so it gets added to your fast travel options. Future meetups with friends become much less of a scavenger hunt.
