How to Build a Flag Pole in DayZ: Materials, Kit, and Base Protection

A Flag Pole in DayZ is not just base decoration. It is one of the most useful structures for long-term storage because it helps keep nearby items from despawning. If your base has taken hours to build, this is the part that helps it stay a base instead of becoming a sad pile of memories.

DayZ Flag Pole Materials

To build a Flag Pole, gather the following materials and tools:

• 10x Log
• 32x Large Stone
• 60x Nail
• 3x Short Stick
• 2x Rope
• 1x Metal Wire
• 1x Flag
• Sledgehammer
• Pickaxe or Shovel
• Hatchet or Hammer

The Flag is usually the hardest piece to get because it cannot be crafted. It can spawn in locations such as:

• General Stores
• Pubs
• Schools
• Offices
• City Halls
• Abandoned buses and 4x4 vehicles

Build during daylight if possible. Construction takes time, and infected have a gift for arriving when your hands are full.

Building and Using the Flag Pole

Step 1: Craft the Flag Pole Kit

Combine 3x Short Stick with 1x Rope to create a Flag Pole Kit.

Place the kit in your hands and choose a flat area inside your base. The ground needs to be reasonably level, or the game will not allow placement. After placing the kit, add 1x Log to the planned Flag Pole location.

Step 2: Build the Base

Bring 6x Log and 32x Large Stone to the Flag Pole base. You can carry everything over in batches or place items nearby first, then move them into the base inventory.

Open the Flag Pole base inventory and insert the logs and stones. Equip a Pickaxe or Shovel, point at the base, and hold the action button to finish the foundation.

Step 3: Raise the Pole and Flag

Bring 3x Log to the completed support. Then add these materials to the Flag Pole base inventory:

• 1x Rope
• 1x Metal Wire
• 60x Nail

Equip a Hatchet or Hammer, aim at the base, and hold the action button to build the pole.

Finally, place 1x Flag into the completed Flag Pole and hold the action button again to hoist it.

Introduced in DayZ Patch 1.09.153337, the Flag and Flag Pole refresh item lifetime values in a 60-meter radius, helping prevent items in that area from despawning.
