GTA 6 Release Date, Platforms, Setting, Trailers, and Characters

Rockstar Games has finally put a firm date on Grand Theft Auto VI, which means the old "we got this before GTA 6" joke can retire with honor. The next entry in the series brings players back to Vice City with new protagonists, modern visuals, and a much clearer launch window.

GTA 6 Release Date

Rockstar first teased GTA 6 in a December 2023 trailer, which pointed to a 2025 release. A newer official trailer later confirmed the current GTA 6 release date as May 26, 2026.

Confirmed GTA 6 Platforms

At the time of writing, GTA 6 is confirmed for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, according to Take-Two's release information. Earlier console generations are not listed, and the game's expected graphics and performance demands help explain why PS4 and Xbox One are unlikely targets.

There is also no official PC release date at the time of writing. Based on GTA 5's rollout, where the PC version launched on April 14, 2015 after the PS3 and Xbox 360 release on September 17, 2013, a later PC version for GTA 6 is possible. However, Rockstar has not announced a PC date.

Setting: Vice City Returns

GTA 6 brings players back to Vice City. Unlike GTA 3: Vice City, which was set in 1986, the new game appears to use a modern-day version of the location. The trailer shows a brighter, busier, and more contemporary Vice City while still hinting at familiar landmarks such as Starfish Island.

Main Characters and Supporting Cast

GTA 6 introduces a new central duo: Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval. Lucia is shown in prison clothing, indicating she has spent time behind bars, while Jason appears as her close partner in a Bonnie and Clyde-style story. Together, they aim to climb through Vice City's criminal world.

The trailer also introduces several characters connected to Lucia and Jason's story:

• Cal Hampton, Jason's friend
• Boobie Ike, a local Vice City legend
• Dre'Quan Priest, a figure in the game's music industry
• Real Dimez and Bae-Luxe, rappers with a strong social media presence
• Raul Bautista, an experienced bank robber chasing bigger jobs
• Brian Heder, a narcotics runner with deep knowledge of the trade

For now, the confirmed GTA 6 details center on the May 26, 2026 release date, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S platforms, the return to Vice City, and the new story built around Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval. More details will depend on what Rockstar shares next.
