Five Multiplayer Zombie Games to Play With Friends

General·December 9, 2022·8 min read

The apocalypse is easier with friends. Not safer, necessarily, but at least there is someone nearby to blame when the barricade fails. Multiplayer zombie games turn survival into a group problem, whether the goal is building a base, reaching extraction, or simply lasting one more day.

Here are five zombie games that work especially well with a squad.

7 Days to Die

7 Days to Die puts players into an open world overrun by zombies, then mixes survival crafting, base building, and first-person shooting. Groups can gather supplies, fortify a home, and try to rebuild something that looks vaguely like civilization.

The pressure comes from the undead hordes that keep closing in, especially when your defenses are not as ready as everyone claimed they were.

Left 4 Dead 2

Left 4 Dead 2 has been around for years, but it remains one of the strongest co-op zombie survival games. The objective is simple: move through the level and reach extraction without the team falling apart.

It works in co-op as survivors and in versus mode where some players control the infected. Either way, the title tends to become accurate for at least one unlucky teammate.

Project Zomboid

Project Zomboid is less about winning the apocalypse and more about seeing how long your group can delay the inevitable. Supplies are limited, the world is already lost, and a single bite can bring a character's story to a quiet, miserable end.

Its strength is the realistic survival simulation. Planning, caution, and teamwork matter, because panic looting rarely ends with dignity.

Unturned

Unturned takes a blocky approach to the zombie apocalypse, combining survival, exploration, and PvP in a lighter, more accessible package. It focuses on fun without losing the tension of scavenging through dangerous areas.

Community-made maps based on real-world locations add variety, and the free price makes it easy for a whole group to try.

Minecraft

Minecraft is not mainly a zombie game, but mods can push it surprisingly far into that territory. With the right setup, players can add endless hordes, survival horror systems, dangerous nights, and modpacks built around holding out against the undead.

HolyHosting supports one-click installs for many Minecraft modpacks, making it easier to turn a normal world into a server where the zombies are suddenly the main concern.

Surviving as a Group

These five multiplayer zombie games each handle the genre differently. Some focus on base building, some on fast co-op campaigns, some on harsh simulation, and some on modded sandbox chaos.

The real question is whether your group will rebuild civilization or accidentally prove why it collapsed in the first place.
