Farming Simulator 25 Fishing Guide: Rod Fishing, Fish Lakes, and Aquaculture

Other Games·November 7, 2025·8 min read

The Highlands Fishing Pack adds fishing and aquaculture to Farming Simulator 25, giving players a new way to earn income around Kinlaig. Instead of only tending fields and livestock, you can catch fish by hand, raise trout, and build a larger fish production chain.

How Fishing Works in Farming Simulator 25

The first fishing spot on the Kinlaig map from the Highlands Fishing Expansion Pack is generally the Fish Lake. Additional Fish Lakes can be bought from Build Mode under the Aquaculture tab, with prices starting at $12,000 each.

Placement cost can rise if the lake is placed on uneven ground, so flat land is friendlier to both your layout and your wallet.

Each Fish Lake is also a Production Chain. Interact with the wrench or spanner icon beside it to open the Production Chain menu. From there, you can breed trout by placing trout in the lake and supplying Fish Food purchased from the store. Smaller trout can also be placed into the Fish Lake as Fish Food.

To fish manually, open the Buy Menu, go to Vehicles, then Hand Tools, and choose Fishing Rods. At the time of writing, Farming Simulator 25 has one Fishing Rod available, priced at $150.

Starting a new game on Kinlaig gives you a Fishing Rod immediately. Saves started on other maps do not begin with that perk, although fishing becomes available on those maps when the Highlands Fishing Expansion Pack is enabled for them.

Equip the rod and stand near a Fish Lake or another body of water. Press and hold the assigned button to cast. The longer you hold it, the farther the line travels.

Wait for a fish to bite, then press the action button at the right moment. If the timing is off, the fish can escape. If it works, the fishing minigame begins.

Note: Empty Fish Lakes can still produce catches, but not everything you reel in is sellable. Sometimes the lake offers junk, because apparently even virtual water has a storage problem.

During the minigame, keep the hook aligned parallel with the fish. Hold the required button to fill the bar on the left, but release when needed so the hook icon stays lined up correctly. Fill the bar completely to land the fish. After catching it, you can sell it immediately or release it back into the water.

Fish Farming Production

A single caught fish sells for $100, which is useful early but not especially strong once your farm grows. For better long-term profit, build toward a Fish Farming Production setup.

The production chain requires a larger investment. Start with the Young Fish Breeding facility from the Build menu, which costs $95,000. Interact with it to buy young trout or salmon.

Fish breeding and cultivation also require a steady supply of fish food. Without food, the system will not produce efficiently.

Next, buy a Cargo Vessel for $275,000. You then need an Offshore Aquaculture Facility from the Aquaculture section of the Build menu. The smallest version costs $125,000.

Once the setup is ready, begin at the Fish Breeding Facility, transport young fish with the Cargo Vessel to the Offshore Aquaculture Facility, and wait for them to mature. After maturity, collect the fish containers and deliver them to your preferred sell point.
